its quite laughable really

£50+2 is not the answer...£20 rebuy is unpopular in a lot of quarters..put a £50 or £75 nice chip freezeout on....easy!

but no.....

I also gather quite a few are gathering at Fifth Street in boreham wood on a Monday these days...attract them back Luton, put on a Monday comp they want to play!!

just a pedantic point, but there are never going to be 36 rebuys available as you can only use the full quota if you drop below half your starting chips at any point during the rebuy period.  I think a total of around 26 available would be nearer the mark.

I see where you are going with this but I don't think your "pedantic point" is totally accurate. As chips move around, it must be possible (if not entirely likely) for each and every player to be low stacked at different times during the rebuy period.

I thought so too - but let it slide Smiley  spread traders usually get burnt badly early in their career by pricing things up assuming it can't settle at an extreme point.  It can... and does.

The following email has just been dispatched to G . Hopefully it will see some results.

Hi Carmel,

A few points to follow on from the email sent a while back. These are not so much personal viewpoints of any of the three of us, rather the general views of several regulars.

The Friday structure now seems bang on with 6,500 chips.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, everyone seems happy with as is.

The one remaining niggle with Sunday is the 4pm start time. A lot are still saying they'd be able to play it if it was switched to a 5pm or 6pm start.
At least a dozen more regulars would be able to make it by 6.30pm/7.30pm and you wouldn't lose any of the current players by going back an hour or even two.
This is even more the case in the summer months when people tend to be busier later into the afternoon given good weather. You have been seeing this in recent Sunday numbers.

The monthly tournament seems much better in its current slot. However, the current buy-in is beyond the usual Friday night crowd and not big enough to draw in festival players from around the country. The general feeling is it would be better off at £150.
There's also a perceived problem with the day two start time. A mid-afternoon Saturday re-start means a lot can't commit. Why not make it a 6pm or 7pm start for day two? That way anyone getting knocked out early is likely to drift into the Saturday night tourney or play cash.
The other hitch currently is that some have to return on day two without yet having cashed. This will put them off long term. Perhaps stipulate that play on day 1 will continue down to the money? If it's a £150 this will always be at least nine anyway, so that would eradicate the problem.

So, on to Mondays. The £50x3 is definitely dead looking at last night's field of 18.
The £20 re-buy idea seems unpopular and most seem to want another £75 FO, structured the same as Friday.

We are also aware that a number of players are now playing elsewhere..Fifth Street at Borehamwood being the usual destination, eg Edna Adams. Would it be worth contacting them personally to attract them back?

Cheers,
Graham Wheldon, Simon Galloway, Richard Prew

I don't know why they didn't just go with the £20 rebuy idea for Monday's given that they had said that's what they were going to have from May.  No idea until they try it how popular it would have been.  I think it might have drawn a few more players in and certainly got higher numbers than Mondays at the moment.  I'd like to see them give that a shot before deciding on, say, a £50-£75 freezeout, both of which are already available on other nights.

I suppose it is technically possible, but if you double up first hand and don't get involved in any big pots in the first hour it's pretty unlikely you'll be able to rebuy before the break. I always go in to Monday prepared to spend £150, but often don't get the opportunity to even if I wanted!

triple posting spammage alert! Anyone going along for the £30 jobbie tonight.  Torn between that and £100 at the Western, but potential league points may just sway me.

Claire,
I've made no secret of it in the past that I would like to see this too.  It does give balance to the week, it might well attract in players that will play for £20 (and of course end up spending £160) that would never buy in to a £50x3 tourny.  The good players get an overlay from this (some of the £160 goes in really baaaad! + you pay less juice on your entry) and the price to pay is 2 lively levels with players wildly overplaying their hands.  Pretty much the same as my starting table in the last £100 freezeout come to think of it...

However, there are so many players (leaguers incl) that have decided up front that they will stay away from this that there doesn't seem much point in trialling it.  The best tourny imo is whatever format they want to use that will create a £4k pool for a sub £100 buy in.  If I have to wear red shoes to play - ok.  If it is 5 card stud - ok.  If it is 10 minute levels  -ok.  Hell, even if it is a £75 freezeout so we have a homogenous schedule all month - ok.  What I don't want is to play in a 18 person tourny taking 8 hours with 3 spots paid.  I also find it ironic that those most vocally opposed to rebuys were almost certainly brought up on a diet of rebuys - and tehrefore should have an edge they are happy to use.

Pretty much the same as everyone else, I will vote with my feet.  I will try and get there and support a rebuy tourny, a nice structure freezeout.  I will stay away from 18-man sngs that I could easily play online in a fraction of the time.

Will anyone else be venturing down to the home counties mecca for this evening's offering?
