Planks?

http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercises_10.htm

Don't rate them that much myself. There's no substitute for hanging leg raises.

Planks are brutal, as per above and sideways as well, I'm up to 2.5minutes for the normal one and 1minute for the sideways one.  Amazing how many people can do 50 sit ups but can't do a plank for 1minute.

Leg raises are great as well but much more difficult to get started with.

this is the one that I use these days (and do standard planks 3x a week)

Obv not 5 times a week but go through most of it at least once a week (takes about 45 minutes to run through so it's a gym session in itsself)

Mrs B is married to a plank. Poor woman...

She knew that when she married me though, and she's called me worse.

I would go for another pun there but she would kill me.

In honour of Boldie I did some planks tonight.

Still not too sure about them but definitely felt they were working.

Might leave them in for a few weeks and see if I like the results.

I thought they were bollocks to start with as well but have definitely noticed an improvement in my core strength, which obv helps with squatting etc.

Matt

How many press ups can you do (to fail)?

Not sure mate as I don't do them any more.

I used to be able to do 150 or so and about 50 single arm ones.

I'd guess if I had to do them today I'd be able to do about 40 normal and zero single arm.

Did some press ups tonight as part of my warm up.

The answer is 35 although it wasn't quite to failure as I didn't want to burn out before my dumbell pressing.

It was very very close thoug and at most I'd have possibly done 5 more.

Pretty good guess.

Pretty disappointed with the dumbell pressing today. I was hoping to hit the 42.5kgs today but fell well short.

To be honest I'm still not quite right from yesterday's hangover and I'm sure this impeded me quite a bit.

Not to worry, there's always next week.

Initiating press up to failure test.....

Good luck Tom.

I'm going to guess round about 15 to 20 assuming you don't do any form of exercise other than your walking.

Waiting with interest.

Ninja'd.

26 is really good Tom.

Bare in mind that I go to the gym a lot and train upper body using other exercises you're not that far behind.

I've also got a few years advantage on you although I don't always feel like it.
