I've been trying to envisage the management meeting where the idea for a £250 Tuesday comp was mooted. No matter how many times I play it in my head I just can't get to the bit where anyone says 'good idea'

No brainer imo Sir Donks

£200 two-dayer, Saturday/Sunday, last weekend of the month, slap a £20k guarantee on, Bob's yer uncle.

Drainage - 40 was the figure a senior G staffer said he would be happy with for tonight. It remains to be seen whether that estimate is on the ambitious side.
RUHoldage - savers only paid down to two places outside the official payout spots, as well you know...

[  ]  They have every chance of achieving this figure imo
[  ] They are not supremely deluded in any way. At all.
[  ]  It has been really well advertised and promoted
[ x ]  it is very likely to be canned due to lack of attendees, other than those who turn up with £35, and have a shocked look on their faces.

[ x ] This would be a beautiful beautiful thing imo.
[    ]  Management will listen, and introduce this.
[ x ]  I like check-boxes

The scene.

An office upstairs at the G Casino, Luton. A table surrounded by eight chairs. A tray with water, tea, coffee, cups and mints. Why do meeting rooms always have mints?

Coco Pops has spent the last twenty minutes straightening the eight chairs and pads of paper with newly sharpened pencils. Today is an important day for today he, Coco Pops, is to lead his first Management meeting for the cardroom

The Agenda is clear.

"April Schedule"

The participants are his peers, and his is nervous. No more could he sit at the back and just nod whenever Carmel looked at him, his top lip moistening with fear at being asked to contribute.

Today was his day. His opportunity to shine. No more wasting half an hour having conversations about Luton Town and Hold or Fold, if Niall was leading the meeting, or Manchester United and Siobhan Crampton if Ian was leading the meeting.

"Today Coco Pops" he said to himself Sotto Voce just in case management had bugged the room "this is your moment. Seize the day. Carpe Diem. Sachin Tendulkar. Just do it"

A few moments later the team assembled.

Carmel, a shadow of the woman she used to be.

Niall. A rare foray of an active shift for him

Ian. Busily updating the G Luton facebook page as he sat down

Nina. Texting Dena, frantically.

Anthony Wood. Talking nine to the dozen, yet barely a word of any import amongst them

Iam Wilmott. Shouldn't be there, but pissed and no one had the heart to tell him to go.

Avi Darvish. Players representative.

Coco Pops brought the meeting to order

"I am happy with the current tournament schedule except in one respect" he announced with a gravitas that frankly his bowel regions failed to share.

He waited for a reaction but received only seven pairs of eyes piercing his glare. The exception being Anthony, in the corner practicing his shout of "One seat here" in the mirror

"The night I have a problem with is Tuesday. Its a lot of hard work for staff. We have to print off three tickets per player and all of them have their triple chance. This means I have, as card-room manager allocated the most important Tuesday nights"

he tried not to get distracted as Niall sniggered beside him and Nina let out a stifled giggle. Wilmott belched and Avi pronounced

"I am the greatest, did you know how shit Dean Morris was?"

The room ignored him, as his Morris rant was now becoming tired.

Coco continued

"the most important Tuesday nights, to allocate extra staff to the task and this takes away valuable resources from the pit. I am proposing a major change to Tuesday nights. A freeze-out. No more rebuy tickets. No more dealing staff standing around like Greengrocers in Covent Garden Market fiddling with their plums. A freeze-out. A proper freezeout. The small time players can play any night lets get the big boys back. Willie Tann. Willie Tann and,er.......er....."

He hesitated, trying to think of another festival circuit regular that had ever travelled to Luton to play a regular comp

"Willie Tann and er...KEVIN O'LEARY..." he screamed in joy as Ian Ahearne leapt in his seat and looked behind him at the mention of the name

"We will have a £250 No Limit Texas Hold Em Freezeout. We will attract Willie, Kevin and the finest players England has to offer. I predict 40-50 runners"

Carmel licked her lips. Yes they were still there and had survived the latest liposuction. As Niall, Nina and even Anthony rolled their eyes she pronounced

"Coco Pops what a splendid idea. I shall put your name to it at Head Office and if it fails I shall forget I ever supported it and blame you. You don't get to where I am today Coco without that priceless ability"

The meeting broke up, and Coco Pops was last seen standing outside the Vic distributing flyers to random Middle Eastern Gentleman as likely to travel to Luton as the event is to get 10 runners.

Cheesy can't see it happening anyway. I'm just annoyed that I have a free night., there's nothing that really appeals poker wise and none of my friends want to go out on the lash Sad  Where's my violin?
