Could it be because my product (Belkin N+, Model F5D8055v2), does not support Windows 7? Or should it just be the same as Windows Vista - which it was working fine on before?

Try to install it with the same drivers as you used on Vista.

I didnt need to reinstall it when upgrading to W7, it just worked.

Fine and nice.. but try some dediicated software for your card, then it will work better. Try http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/316/p/215 the one on here, eventhou it dont say win7, it might work.

I tried downloading that earlier when Jane said look for upgrades, it told me not compatible with W7.

OK, now we know what we are dealing with, lets start again.

That's a USB adaptor, not a card (  Wink ), so there is no point in trying to disable it lol.

the advise on that card for W7, from Belkin is :

Quote

Windows 7 users:

If you are using an older Belkin Networking product, you may not have support for Windows 7 with your current software.  Please visit your product specific support site to check for updated Windows 7-compatible software for your product

Software updates will be posted as they become available.  Please check back if your product is not currently supported.

Some updates may still be in the process of going through Microsoft’s official certification program.  Although they have been thoroughly tested, they may present a warning message when the driver is being installed.  These drivers will install on 32 bit operating systems but not on 64 bit systems, which is the normal and expected behaviour.

Even though your product may currently not be supported under Windows 7, it may very well work on it; in the majority of cases, software and drivers for Windows Vista will work on Windows 7 without a problem.

Basically that means that if it worked, you were lucky, but as yet it isn't supported as they haven't as yet produced the drivers (they will get a driver out soon I should think).

No way to make W7 support it I'm afraid, they will write and publish the software as and when they do it, but, the newer the product the quicker the release.

Not what you want to hear, but I would bet money on that being the problem.

You could always pick up a cheap USB adaptor that does support W7 for now, really no need to spend a fortune on this sort of stuff.

Just a quick thought, you haven't purchased or use any new devices that might be interfering with the signal, it doesn't happen very often, but when it does it can cause problems similar to what you are describing.

Could be a new phone, TV remote, wireless keyboard or even a microwave! anything that you got at around the same time as the problem started?

Good thinking.. channels 1,6,11 are most common over here, try change what channel the router is running on, if you and all your neighbours are running on the same channel it might be conflicts.

Nope nothing new like that :S

Have just spent half hour rearranging the room so we can just connect it with ethernet cable. Will be a short term solution.

Thanks for your help

Probably worth checking the power management on the device is switched off. I'm currently on a Vista machine and can't remember if it's the same, but if you go to Device Manager (in control panel), find the USB adaptor in the list, double click it, go to the Power Management tab, and make sure "Allow the Computer to turn off this device to save power" is not checked. Fairly common cause of USB device problems.

Should be a long term solution if it's a desktop PC. Wireless is great for laptops and phones, but a cable always seems faster and more stable to me.
