so there i am, 6 weeks into my strenous weightloss and fitness program. everything going well, down over a stone. gets up this morning, go to the gym as usual. have a cracking workout feel really good. until i walked outside and realised the bastards hadnt gritted the paths in the carpark.
i go arse over tit. no problem, bit wet but no real pain apart from a sore ankle and feeling a bit of a plonker. go home, change clothes. drive 50 miles to see a customer, come home, and realise as i try to get out the car that i cant put any weight on my right foot. worse than that, i cant bloody drive either.
phone the missus who leaves work and drives me to the hospital - outcome : fractured ankle. complete rest for 7 days....

Not for untreated ice,if they had made an attempt to clear it and failed that would be different.

Not sure if I quite follow this mate.
So if they say 'come and use our gym, park your car in our carpark', and it's been raining, then it's been freezing, would be reasonable for them, if taking care of their clients, to think it would probably be very slippy, so should either remove the slippiness or post warnings. They didn't, client suffered by their negligence, client sues, client wins (hopefully), client buys new huge colour TV and returns to Persistent Vegetative State, all are happy. No?
Maybe that has less of a ring to it than 'injured at work? Not your fault?'

Reminds me of the Health and Safety obsessed place I worked in last winter. Gems such as posters in the mens toilet warning of the dangers of wearing stiletto heels to work, and emails about the dangers of dropping coffee mugs on your toe ("a colleague in the Welsh office sustained bruising as a result").
Got to work one morning and the entire car park was like a sheet of ice. Very carefully crossed it to get to the office, logged in, and found an email from H&S saying 'please take care as the car park is extremely slippy today'.
Yeah, thanks for the warning you useless bastards.

According to the insurers of my fathers shop, ice is an act of God,if someone slips on it tough, but if he tries to clear it and someone is injured then he his liable.

Why do people need to be warned to be careful on a slippy surface?
This mentality is why the country is in the mess it's in. Someone successfully sued our local authority after climbing a fence and falling into a pond on a wildlife reserve.
His argument? "The fence wasn't high enough to prevent me climbing over"

The lengths some people will go to just to get out of dieting at this time of year...

I think the gym is taking care of it's clients by allowing the carpark to freeze over. If you don't have the agility to make it to your car without going arse over tit maybe it's time to book in at reception for a new fitness programme. Fair play to the gym for testing their member's core stability I say.
