Time for my reply to this.

The way I see it I make a very important distinction between two things:

1) Playing poker for enjoyment as a hobby
and
2) Playing poker to make money

Whenever I play poker it for the enjoyment of the game and the social aspect. Making money is a nice bonus. Whenever I play at DTD there is a slight amount of 2) going on because these are higher buyins. But I play these because I enjoy the occasional deepstack game.

If I find I do not enjoy a game then I do not bother playing it again.

Quite a few people in Leeds seem to wonder why I play at Alea and not at Gala. I know that to some it seems strange I don't play at Gala because I'm so +EV in those fields, and the prizepools are decent. But on the whole I just don't enjoy playing there. And if I'm doing something as a hobby then enjoyment is the number 1 thing.

At Alea on the other hand there's not as many runners and the prizes aren't as good. But I enjoy playing there. The location is nice, the facilities good, and I know and get on with everyone who plays there. There's a social aspect to the game that Gala just doesn't have. At Gala I'll often find myself cramped into a table with 11 people around it with lots of old miserable people. Not my idea of an enjoyable night out.

Perhaps you need to rethink your basic philosophy behind the game Girgy. You've played the £300/£150 at DTD a few times but it's always seemed to me that you can't really afford to do so. Taking a shot is fine, but only once or twice. Having done it quite a few times I'm not suprised you're disillusioned with the game. Try playing some more social games such as home games or maybe even pub games. Maybe give Alea a go the next time I go down. Yeah, the game is cheap and cheerful, but I think this is exactly what you need to start enjoying the game again.

Approx:

You cash in 1 in 4 comps.
You win outright in 1 in 4 cashes.
Your WINNING 1 in 8 comps you play.

The question is can you afford to quit.

Maybe experiment with giving up for a smaller period of time first and then build up to year.

eg, a weekend  Wink
