Quote
Proposals to modernise British horse racing's image, including an end to traditional odds, have been unveiled.

The initiatives announced by the Racing For Change taskforce on Tuesday are aimed at boosting the popularity of the sport and attracting a wider audience.

Among them is a plan to end the use of the fractional odds system currently used by the betting industry.

A racecourse trial in the spring will see odds of 15/8, for example, becoming 1.9/1, and 6/4 becoming 1.5/1.

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

About time, how many people having theeir first bet can work oiut £5 at 11/8 when £5 at 7/5 for instabce is a piece of cake. If you were inventing a priocing system now and came up with the one we use at the moment you would be laughed at.

kinda makes sense but why not just use decimal odds seeing as the system's already in use?

Exactly. If youwere going to invent the system now why woudnt you use evs 11/10 6/5 13/10 7/5 6/4 8/5 17/10 9/5 19/10 2/1.

Or as you say 2.0 2.1,2.2,2.3,2.4,2.5,2.6,2.7,2.8,2.9,3.0 and so on.

lol, but thats why they are changing it. So that people will understand the prices a little better and therefore be more interested in betting.

its greed imo, they make out like theyre saving the sport but theyve sussed that theyre getting so many new customers from poker and the internet that are on the verge of being punters, like recreational players on here who have never had a bet in their life but read this board day in day out and are now interested so they want to make sure they can rinse them as easily as possible, the system was fine imo.

and man never landed on the moon eh. I guarantee you there are a shed more people that gamble on horses/football that move over and try poker than the other way round.

yeah but whats that got to do with anything? the punters that transfer to poker already know the odds just through repetition but not the other way around, its not conspirarcy theories, i just know what bookmakers are like and so do you Tongue

It is the Racing for Change directive that is having a trial weekend of returning decimal prices on horse racing.

Traditional bookmakers already offer decimal pricing on all sports on their websites., You can chose from decimal, fractional or American style on most of the major sites.

The RFC scheme have aknowledged that the present SP style of prices in racing is an area that they feel scares people from having a bet, the example I gave with 11/8 is just a small one there are loads more.

You and I have been used to those prices prob all our gambling lives but if you had never have a bet they can appear complicated. It isnt the bookmakers that are sugesting this trial , it is the RFC board set up by racing to suggest making betting easier.

If sp's are returned at 2.4 instead of 11/8 and 2.9 instead of 15/8 punters will be better off. Conversely if they return 4.3 instead of 100/30 of 2.6 instead of 13/8 we will be worse off but it is deffo a much clearer way for people to grasp their returns.

What they havent realised in their delusion tho is that racing punters are dying out and wont be replaced by younger fans anyway coz lets face it most racedays are dreadful these days. A usual they are looking for something to give racing a boost without considering that they arent actually boosting the racing experience for fans first.

Bingo. This reminds me of FIFA asking domestic FA's to give suggestions for rule changes and improvements to the game, the SFA's contribution - if players use tape to hold up socks/shinpads it should be the same colour tape as their socks. Genius that.

Many long term gamblers can't work out traditional odds payouts. I suspect plenty can't figure it out in decimal either.

First time i got a footie coupon up i had to ask the bookie for a recount but most would simply accept the return as given.

Yeah I think this is a joke, fractions ftw.

I think it was Barry Dennis who made a funny comment on sky sports news when interviewed by saying he's been shouting for years "Burlington Bertie the field, whats it gonna be now, 3.33333 recurring the field!"

LOL
