Blackpool rake table Saturday night. I sat down late (4.30am ish), very lively game. Seat 1 is a very drunk (and possibly mentally infirm) novice, Seat 3 is an experienced player. The two guys know each other (I know Seat 3 but not seat 1)

Seat 1 has done his bollox in (in addition to his liver) and Seat 3 is lending him money across the table, from his stack (he has hundreds in front and covers everyone else there by plenty). Seat 3 it seems has now lent Seat 1 £600 in total.

I asked seat 3 if he is comfortable playing his own money across the table and he replied he can pull it outof his pocket if I prefer. As I've sat down with a oner it's hardly relevant as he'd have to double me up about 7 times to start owing me anything, which I pointed out. I've seen a few rows though when players start betting into each other in circumstances like this, which is the reason I asked.

(The next few hands ended up HU with Seat 1 and 3, one example being seat 1 betting into all the way on a board of q7qA9. Seat 1 shows a7, seat 3 qk. )

Anyway, the point of this post is Seat 1 then gets into a big pot with 4 other players and wins with a full house with 10 6 in his hand. I was in the pot and lost with a flush.

Seat  1 then starts to pay Seat 3 back, passing £400 across the table.

I said I felt that was wrong - seat 1 won the money off other players and should keep the cash in front of him until he leaves, obviously to give other players the chance to get it back.

said I was wrong (quite a few times)  but he wouldnt argue with me as I was losing (Although he did)... I'd just cashed for 3rd in the comp so was still up on the night and wasnt losing much sleep over 100 on the cash table, but I didnt argue the point as I felt it may look like sour grapes on my part.

Seat 1s mate who had been sat with seat 3 chatting then went to seat 1 and tried to take £400 cash off the table "to look after it for him". He was told to leave it in play by the dealer.

My question is, if a player lends to another player across the table, can he then ask for it back once that player wins? I do understand the money isnt leaving the table but to my mind i would rather have my cash in fron t of the loose drunk who can't see his cards to be in with a chance of  taking it back?

It shouldn't have been lent in the first place. I'm highly suprised (well not really) that the dealer allowed this to take place.

The money should stay in front of him. If he's going to pay back it should be from his pocket and that money should go back in front of seat 3.

Money should just never be lent across the table full stop.

I agree, obv if the guy has it in his pocket why lend from his stack in first place, but it happened. Seat 3 was most insistent that he was right and pretty obnoxiously so, but having a reputation for having been pretty obnoxious in the past myself, AND having lost the hand I felt to push the point with management made me look like a bad loser, otherwise I would have called the floor over.

The dealer was inexperienced and allowing seat 3 to run the whole table so he was never going to take charge. Anyway I did walk, but would still like to know if there is any rule on this or is it just bad etiquette.

You can lend money from your pocket, but money at the table should never be passed from one player to another (either seated at the table or not, but especially if they're seated).  It's ridiculous.

Is that standard at Blackpool? If it is, I'd never play in a game there.

It's standard in a lot of games where the players know each other. I/we do this sort of thing now and again, but if there are players we don't know at the table then someone will have to bite the bullet and get the cash out!

It suits everyone for the loser to be lent the money in the 1st place, but obviously no-one wants him to give it back afterwards. Neither should really be allowed but it keeps the game going and rocking then I would let it slide. Problem is, you can't complain about him giving the money back if you didn't complain about it in the 1st place. It's the same thing.

Fair point Rich. I'm actually trying to be less of a twat at the poker table hence no complaint when the cash first went over. I'm not convinced it's the way forward for me but I'll keep at it, at least until I lose it lol

Oh, but it's still dodgy and against most house rules. But it happens quite a bit is all I am saying.
