Apologies to Tank ... it's another BBC link
LOL at them not having legal grounds to punish him, surely it would come under "unsporting conduct" ... if they had any intention of handing him a couple of games ban, they could have done it.
utter total bullshit imo.

Yawn, if the game was not so high profile this incident would have been forgotten about within 24 hours. He handled the ball deliberately which is a bookable offence as far as I am aware not a criminal offence.

Arriving in dublin airport last november - on arrival a big digi sign said.
"Paddy Power welcomes you to Ireland - unless your name is Thierry"
I did smile

Sweet FA, same as every other high profile example of the "crime" ... what pisses me off is that they (Fifa) go through the motions so some dumb fucks actually think they care ... nothing can be done after the event, so why not just come out the day after it happened and just say "Sorry Eire, shit happens" now get over it.

Imprison Maradona imo, and award England the World Cup from that year - as we'd obviously had gone on to win it if that handball hadn''t happened.
Or something...

I think Fifa are making a big mistake letting this and similar incidents go unpunished.
2 / 3 match ban for unsporting behaviour.

I beleive that unsporting behaviour is just a bookable offence and thats it. Should players that appeal for a corner when they know its a goal kick also get banned surely that is 'unsporting'
Its part and parcel of the game, like it or not, there is a ref on the pitch, 2 linesmen if they all miss it tough shit. Im sure all of our teams have benifited from refs mistakes.

As an Irish Chelsea fan,the downswing of refs decisions the last 2 years is something that I will never live to see the upswing of.
I am like the polar opposite of what Jerry Yang winning the main event is to poker in footballing terms.

I agree with your point but the loss of income in Ireland by not qualifying will be massive so politically it's not nearly the same even if it is a WC quarter final.
