Tough spot that one.
I think it depends on how horrific the death was going to be. If we're talking needles through the eyeballs and a hammer drill through the head as a finishing touch then the finger would have to go.
If I'm just going to fall asleep and not wake up then the incentive to bite off that pinky might not be enough.

how would this situation arise? if your finger was stuck in something so you had to chew it off to escape then you wouldn't have access to the whole finger and it would be pretty damn tricky if not impossible to get enough purchase with your choppers
if however someone pointed a gun at your head and told you to do it or he'd shoot you'd probs just tell him to gfh
so all things considered I'm going for a no

Could be a snake bite I suppose.
If that was the case you'd need to know that it was deadly which counts most of us out but it's a possibility.
I remember seeing a program where a bloke cut his arm off because he'd been bitten by a snake.
Nasty.
Especially as it bit him on his arse!!

I was biting the finger nail on my little finger and nipped the the top of my finger by mistake and it hurt like f**k and it got me thinking about this so i bit my finger a tiny bit like you would if you were going to do it and it hurts like hell straight away, it would be 20x worse if you did it plus the horror of having your own finger off, i just dont think even to save your own life you could do it. bite down on your finger a little bit, without even making an indentation in the skin it hurts like hell, i dont know why though because to save your life you could easy cut your own finger off with a big knife and handle the pain and the teeth could deffo do the job so why cant you do it?

There was that guy a few years back who was climbing (think it was in the grand canyon area) who got his arm pinned under a rock and had to saw through his bone with a penknife or something. Think you would pretty much do anything to save your life if it comes to it.

Even open-raise fold on a Q-high rainbow board with KK?

true, i'm bitting down not properly incetivised and stopping as soon as it tingles a tiny bit , if it came to it the adrenaline would be up and your blood pumping and you'd probs not think about it and just tear it off in one!

Can we not fool the opposition and give them a toe instead?
Less painful surely
