Enjoying my little break and it's worked out well timing wise as I've got a cold and I'm a massive drama queen so wouldn't have played even if I was planning to.

I had forgotten until recently that I had even set myself any goals at the start of this and couldn't remember what they where as the goals I had set then became kind of irrelevant as when I started the thread I had no immediate plans to go full time with the pokers.I did manage to achieve 2 out of the 3 goals and in my defence I'd say I kind of achieved the third as when I set the goal of having a 10k br that was with the intention of making no withdrawals so we can just pretend I achieved them all imo.

Setting goals is an interesting dynamic I feel because although they can help to spur you on I wonder should you be setting very tough goals to reach or just set yourself goals that although you should achieve and would be disappointed not to it would still be a successful year if you managed them.I'm not really explaining what I mean there as I definitely think you should always strive to do the best you possibly can, anyway here are the goals I'm setting myself for 2011.

- Reach 200k vpp's
- Make $50k+ inc rb from 45mans
- Make $10k+ from online mtt's
- Finish the year as the no1 45man player on Stars, according to sharkscope. (With my poor finish at the end of this year I ended up 3rd in the 5's-15's )

I think they are all achievable but good, tough goals to set and it'll be a good year if I finish off 4/4 and I certainly plan too.

I will have the rest off the week off as planned and enjoy watching England win the Ashes in style then go have some fun with the Sky lot in town at the weekend before getting back to grinding next week.

Gl monda really looking forward to following your thread; tough goals IMO so could be great even if you could get 2-3/4, 4/4 would be pretty epic

Ray, you still got the hat?

Pic is a bit blurry, but it seems apt seeing as everything was a bit blurry that evening Cheesy

"the Sky lot"?

You are SO gonna get abused by me this Saturday.

You playing the Friday night donkfest? I usually do, but I'm thinking of swerving it this Friday, as I'm woefully tired.

Looking forward to the weekend, though, I'm staying at my favourite Hotel in Newcastle, the Copthorne, right by that little rivery thing - The Tyne, is it?

I stayed there once with Jen Mason (not "with her", but you know what I mean) & we were in that Lounge overlooking the River, or Canal, or whatever it is, & who should be sitting at the next table but Sir Bobby Robson, in his famous cream suit. He was, like, Royalty in those parts. I'm, like, in AWE.

I pointed him out to Jen.

"Who that?" she said.

"It's Bobby. Sir Bobby. Sir Bobby Robson".

"Who?"

"You know, Sir Bobby Robson. Football......"

"Oh, I see. He's a footballer. Another cup of tea?"

I respected her so much until that day.

Didn't know there was a Friday night comp,if your playing it lmk and I'll try and get there just to bust you obv Smiley

I take it you like really old fashioned hotels with old style decor etc ? No offence but the Copthorne is a very overpriced and outdated hotel.Malmaison on the other hand is a stunning hotel and by far the nicest in town.If you changed your booking I would abs gte you'd enjoy your stay at Malmaison more.I'm now waiting for you to say you've stayed there and hated it

If I remember rightly it was you who mentioned how the spell check on here tries to make pretty inaccurate changes.I just used it and it wanted to change Copthorne to Capone, sick sick read.

Out of the SPT price range, that, we try to manage costs carefully, as it is overheads, which all dead money. Overheads first have to be earned.....

I stayed there twice, & really liked it. Had THE most splendid bath, as I recall. Hotels are judged by their baths & showers. I stayed in the Station Hotel, too - dreadful - & The Waterfront - double ugh. The Thistle is dreadfully dull.

Did the Copthorne used to be a 5 star hotel ? Thought pricing would've been similar but just checked and seen that Mal was a hundo more.Me Mam stayed at the Malmaison in Leeds over Christmas for three nighs and it was only £210,run good much.

I had the pleasure to meet Sir Bobby once and it was an occasion I doubt I'll ever forget. The company I work for sells mobility scooters and he got one from us in return for a little bit of advertising.I was totally in awe of him and there are very, very few people I would say that about but I just couldn't stop staring at him.Although he was clearly not 100% well he still took pictures with people and gave autographs.I'm not a fan of photos as I much prefer memories in my head to looking at a photograph but I just had to ask if I could get his autograph.I still have it with the words,To Raymond all the best Bobby Robson.I'm not sure if people write Sir in front of there name once they are knighted but I really liked the fact he didn't address it with Sir although there is very few more deserving of the title.

I thought that would be it and was well chuffed but then when he came back through he was a little out of breathe and the desk opposite me was empty so he sat down and we spoke for about 5 minutes about football, going to the Newcastle matches and he was asking me what I was doing with myself etc.Such a great moment for me and like I say one I'll never forget. The man was truly a legend and a true gentleman not only of the game but life in general,RIP Sir.

I'm in the Copthorne for £70 a night, I think, the MalMaison quoted £220!

I'll be on my own, so no point getting a better room.

Me too - I don't get starstruck very easy - I work with Rich Orford, after all - but I could not help staring at Sir Bobby, & it is a great memory. A very special man.

I did not know you were working in "mobility scooters" & suchlike. That was the last business venture that Dave Smith, who just passed away, did, selling mobility scooters & "carts". Quite a big business these days, I believe.
