Again I would just like to say that the mention about Cos was totally unjustified and just me being a tool. Also as I've already said I wasn't trying to make any of the "shrewdies" look bad, since Vegas if I've ever spoken about them to others I haven't had anything bad to say about them.

Thanks to everyone for the comments and concern, I am fine overall.

My advice is chill out man!!!

AND.....maybe give up poker for a bit!!!! you've always sounded a decent guy with sound posts etc but recently a lot of your posts have been filled with agitation

I know it would maybe a bit hard since you have a backer + ur VIP status on stars but there's more important things in life than online poker

Ray,
In my experience, Vegas is always a "do your own thing" place.  I have been in groups before where I haven't seen a guy from getting off the plane right thru to boarding again.  It wasn't be design, I just did what I wanted when I wanted.  If he wasn't having fun, he could have phoned me to find out what I was up to.  And if I was bored, I would have phoned him to find out if anything good was happening.  Everyone gets stuck at the tables (or once in a while runs deep in an mtt etc) and also will get battered to varying degrees, such that within 2 days of arriving, some people will just be getting up as others are just coming in.  If people are there trying to play for a living, then they have a different agenda than those that are going for the laugh.  Admittedly, those boundaries are often very blurred, as even those that arrived with "focus" are eventually defeated by the enigma that is Vegas and need to blow off steam.  For some, that's getting battered again, table games, day trip off strip, pool party, whatever works.

If a group of guys have rented a house off-strip but didn't go to the trouble to offer you a sofa or better, then they haven't really "invited you out" ~ they have just said "c ya in Vegas if you are out there."  Contacting people in Vegas can be tricky, usually text/IM messages work best as you can never be sure when people are sleeping.  That gets even trickier if people don't have mobiles, or get so completely mangled that they lose them all the time.  "See you in xxx bar @ 7pm" rarely works out well, as ^^ people get stuck in a good/bad game and then feel compromised that they have some sense of duty to break off to meet @ 7 when they now don't want to.  Much easier to just text and do something on the spot, without doubt most of the best nights I've had have been impromptu decisions made by people there at the time.

I'm not standing up for the "shrewdies" ~ that's just how Vegas is.  People normally have responsibilities/commitments/routines over here, (ok some poker players might not!) so one of the best things about Vegas for me is that I can be entirely selfish.  I don't have to get up when someone else wants me to, go to bed when someone wants me to, let the clock govern what I do in any way.  I remember the TR's/diary being pretty funny although I haven't bothered to re-read it to be sure of facts.  But it felt at the time that you went there with little/no money (or knocked it in pdq) and got abso mangled most days.  That can be a tricky combination to work into an existing group.

Maybe you were ostracised, maybe you alienated people, maybe neither happened at all but that's how it felt.

Next time you do Vegas, take plenty of money for what you want to do, swap numbers with others that are there (seems there are plenty of Blondes every Venetian DS and the whole world @ WSOP) and I'm sure you will have a fantastic trip.

Oh, and ffs take it a bit easier on the sauce.

I don't think there is any reason to give up poker. As I said my recent agitations haven't been down to poker, yeah I've whinged a bit about it but the next day I forget about it. I'm not Supernova on Stars anymore and will be moving to another site soon.

Agree with the chill out part though.

Ray I'm sorry but this is not true. Going through a downswing isn't nice and does affect your mood even if you don't think it is.

+1 to what Simon said about the sauce too. Go easy on it

Yeah I'm not saying I'm immune to a downswing, just I haven't gone into the other stuff and just didn't want people to think it was solely down to poker. Obv it effects your mood both ways but I try to manage my emotions so that I'm not super happy when I have a good run or the opposite when it's going bad. I guess I'm just trying to make the point that poker isn't one of my main issues and this is definitely true.

As for travelling it is something I will do but at the minute I'd probably get as far as Hadrian's wall with my net  Grin

I think it's just the way things are when people are fitting around groups of people who've been mates & known each other for a long time. You never feel quite 'part of it' but it is not the groups fault who are effortlessly natural in each others company.

I know what it's like cause I have the same when I go to Luton, they are all Luton chavs and I'm a bit superior and newer to the crowd even though it's been a few years I've been going there. Celtic, Sicilan & Chompy in particular have 2 main attributes (their faces) and always make me feel as welcome as a Tom Myland joke.

Ray

Do yourself a favour and cut down on the beer.

You're a much more pleasant person to be around when you're sober or mildly drunk.

If you were 'mortal' when you were with the shrewdies in Vegas I can understand exactly what Brent was saying may have been the reasons for you not being invited to everything.

Sorry if this sounds harsh. I don't want you to think I don't like you or anything because I do. I just prefer the sober Ray to the 'mortal' one.

Hope you work everything out mate.

Ray,

Yup there are a lot of dickheads in the world - i find situations like the one you described in the pub very uncomfortable too.  it takes a brave person to stand up and speak out against that type of behaviour. others are probably thinking the same as you but don't have the strength of character not to join in.

Good, decent, people like you are special and worth knowing - you know you're one of my favourites Smiley  Carry on being yourself, stop worrying about what other people think (although I don't think that's really a problem for you) and you'll do just great at pretty much everything.
