Is this a level ?

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/gove-backs-royal-yacht-jubilee-005608955.html

I'm not really clued up on them but I've never been keen on the royal family. Neither of my parents have any views one way or the other that they've passed onto me but I've just always thought, what do they do ? I also cba with all this bollocks about how you have to approach the Queen and to speak to her in a certain way and all that palaver with regards to the posh buggers. I'm pretty certain the Queen doesn't do enough to warrant a £60million gift from the taxpayer, anyone actually think this is a good idea ? Seems absolutely absurd to me with all the cuts that are being made everywhere but lets give the Queen a yacht, she probably only has two for her own personal use so I guess she is in dire need tbf, fricking idiots.

How about they name a Football stand - or even Stadium - in her honour?

I can see it now, in the middle of Newcastle, "The QE2 Stadium", with the Toon Army all singing "God Bless Our Gracious Queen".

Haha, that's probably better than what it will end up being called.

I really think it's a struggle to find any decent films to watch, I've rarely watched films in the last year as I've mostly just watched US tv shows which pwn everything else but I've watched most of the good one's now. I went through the archives of the US box office for movies on IMDB going back to early last year and made a list of the films I thought I might like, watched about 10 films in the last week and I'd struggle to even remember the names of half of them. It's all just the same old regurgitated dross and not one of them would I say was a good film, well maybe one, the best one was Horrible bosses which is pretty com but still a pretty standard film with nothing new about it.

I think I'm going to follow ACE2M's idea and go through the top 250 list but I've probably seen a lot of them already, one that I haven't seen and I'm sure I'm in the minority is The Good,The Bad and The Ugly, fair to say I don't really watch Westerns, fell asleep after about the first hour but it was pretty good upto that point so going to watch the rest now.

Happy days, the US Office is back after the Xmas break, this programme is so close to being my absolute favourite, really love it. It's so much better than the UK version. I've never really been to keen on Ricky Gervais, he just comes across like too much of a twat too often for my liking but I have to admit some of the stuff he does is very good. I've never watched any of his stand up though, think watching him loving himself for an hour+ would just be too much. I've never got round to watching the Carl Pilkington thing where he travels around the world but will watch that at some point. Listened to a few of the podcast that them two plus Steve Merchant did and always thought Gervais came across as the least funniest of the three, he's not done half bad for himself though has he, Americans absolutely love him as well, nice life.

Totally agree re: Gervais, have never found him funny

I take you have seen the first two films before the good, the bad and the ugly?

You can watch it on it's own but get more of the character and plot having seen the first two. They are:

A fist full of dollars
For a few dollars more

Going through the IMDB Top 250 is a great way of watching films you might otherwise dismiss. I spent 7 years doing a 90 minute each-way train commute, and tried to watch as many as possible. When I stopped in 2007, I think I had about 8 left on the list, generally that I couldn't get from Lovefilm. You have to have a very open mind - I would never have thought I'd enjoy silent films, and indeed I didn't enjoy some of them - Metropolis would be a good example - but The General - a Buster Keaton silent film from 1926, is just superb. Would never ever have watched that without the motivation of it being on that list. Ditto for many of the subtitled foreign language films. City of God, or Das Boot, for instance, amazing films.

Of course looking through the list now, there's about 30 released since 2007, of which I've seen about 10, which is depressing!

I remember being really pleasantly surprised by the first seasons of the US office after what was a disastrous pilot. Don't really watch much TV anymore so not up to date but think the show really benefited from having time to develop the characters.

This said... the UK office is, in my opinion, one of the most brilliant series ever made - certainly up there with Partridge for my favourite ever show. It's just so beautifully crafted. Not a word, moment or scene is wasted. I must have watched the episodes tens of times and still every time there is something new that raises a smile or makes me think, "God that's good". Gervais/Merchant just seem in complete control of the emotions of the viewing public and script accordingly.
