Deal or no deal?

Is a chip count an equitable way to distribute the cash at the end of a tourney? Final table of the DTD £50 deepstack. 253 runners, 8 left, just over £10,000 to be won.
A chip count is proposed and seems to be being pushed hardest by the two shortest stacks.
It seems to me that the shorties get the best part of any deal.
If ever I find myself with the decision to make again I'd like to be better prepared.

All depends on chips/blinds payout, if you are one of the chip leaders you should be the one who is putting the deal to them, what did you do in the end?

The only deal being discussed was one that was proportional to stacks.
 
I'm interested in the general issues rather than the specifics of last night.
But if my stack is a little above average but I feel confident do I view the deal differently.

Well if you were chip leader and you were running all over the table 1st prize was £4000 but the chip count would give you £2400 its not a good deal so i would always say no

If your CL then chip equity deals are good for you, if you are a short stack its bad for you, pretty com the shorties were pressing for a bad deal.

Never had to consider this before so it was all new - I've been digging since and read this http://www.poker-tomorrow.com/poker/proportional/ although I think I still don't deal at 8 left.

I was second in chips and the only one of the eight who was resisting openly I planned on suggesting a deal when we got down to 4 or 5 but I was shortstack when we got to 5 and then busted.

I wanted the win more than the money and having played for over 10 hours to get to the final table and having been dominant on the table as we played hand for hand I was thinking it might be my day. I hit a monster in the first orbit and all but doubled up -   - flop   , turn   oppo had   MBSFN and although it wasn't all plain sailing after that it made decision-making easier for a long period.

Always resist the first deal anyway (unless it is hugely in your favour)

Those people who want to deal, are those to play against.

I just very firmly say "no deals" as soon as they get brought up. People get the message very quickly. Also dont get caught up in table talk. Just turn to the TD say no deals and move on

Saying no deals is ridcuolous

What you really want to do is upset the shit out of everyone.

Pick the guy who is making the loudest argument for dealing and offer him a £1 more than the next prize to STFU
Or the good old "Guys id love to deal, but your all tez so ill take £10 more than 1st and you lot do what you want."
