Sigh, no Dwan or Ivey for season 7 as it's going to be sponsored by PokerStars

"While GSN hasn’t made a formal announcement regarding the current line up for the latest season of High Stakes Poker, word on the cast has been leaking from the players themselves via Twitter.

Taping for the upcoming season got underway yesterday at the Bellagio. That’s a switch for High Stakes Poker, which has filmed previous seasons at the Golden Nugget. That always seemed a bit of an odd choice, given the Bellagio’s reputation (undeserved or no) as the heart of high stakes poker in Vegas.

This season also marks a bit of a departure from previous seasons in that you’re unlikely to see any big-name Full Tilt Poker pros at the table – read more about why Dwan and Ivey won’t be on Season 7 of High Stakes Poker.

Anyhow, various players have confirmed to various degrees that they are taking place in the taping.

The short list of names speculated to be at the taping includes:

Phil Galfond
Andrew Robl
Barry Greenstein
David “Viffer” Peat
Phil Laak (cue a bunch of lame Laak / Bellagio jokes)
Doyle Brunson
Antonio Esfandiari
Haralabos Voulgaris
Scotty Nguyen
Jason Mercier
Jonathan Duhamel

No word yet on if there will be any “celebrity” players this season.

Long-time HSP vet Daniel Negreanu stated publicly he won’t be back for this season due to scheduling conflicts.

Will all apologies to Mr. Galfond, we’re just not seeing a name on this list that replaces the kind of action that Tom Dwan brought to HSP. The lack of Ivey and Antonius would seem to further decrease the chance for interesting, aggressive play at the table. Of course, that could be solved by just giving Isildur1 a seat at the HSP table. One time, Stars?

Assuming Isildur1 is not in the mix (and we’ve heard nothing to suggest he is), you never can say what sort of dynamic could emerge, and if nothing else the sums involved should continue to be staggering – especially if Greenstein, who never runs it multiple times, is involved in the pot."

Negreanu played the last session on high stakes this season as he finished shooting a comercial earlier than expected.

agree that its gonna be shite without durrr and ivey though, not normal watching those 2.

He seems like he at least was a pretty massive degen having sick swings, just for the name though he's in. Robl can gtfo unless he starts to spew. Selbst appears on the new season and said she played terribly so hopefully there are some stupid pots and some mahussssive swings.

I'd rather watch them play $NL100 min/max 500bb buyin. So that their regard for a buyin would be negligible rather than wow a massive pot with lots of money.... who cares I wanna see guuuut pokaz

it wouldnt have been made (nor would season 6 have) if it wasnt for stars putting up the money, GSN did not want to make any more.  Saying that it is a shame I agree as now we have a TV program that is only HSP in name and nothing else. Its even more of a shame given that stars paid for it last year as well and we still got eli, dwan, ivey etc on then.
