Hi all, I was told last night that the venetion in vegas is offering free room in an attempt to get ppl in at the moment. Has anyone else heard this? This could be the opportunity for a cheap unplanned break if it is

Is that for the deepstack extravaganza starting April 1st ?

Unless you have a source, I'd be highly suspicious of anyone suggesting that the V would ever give away free rooms (comps excepted ofc), especially around their deepstack series.

They do offer a poker rate for, I think, 6 hours of cash play per day.

Regardless of whatever you might hear, Vegas isn't hurting that much...especially the V, which has never had any trouble getting people to stay there.

Just started to look at prices for Vegas as this will be my first time out there, not sure how much i should be looking to pay. After a quick browse lastnight i got the figure around £800 for flight an 5 nights in Tropicana around end of june early july. Is this price ok or should i keep looking?
Any feedback much appreciated...
cheers

Overdue a sticky on this somewhere....

1. Don't stay in Tropicana - it should have been pulled down years ago.
2. Check the flight times, if you are on an indirect flight, you could have an 18 hour flight ahead of you
3. Check Virgin and BA for direct flight prices
4. Check hotel websites directly, and sites like fatwallet and smartervegas that offer good bonus codes for hotels
5. Add 3 and 4 up and if it comes to less than £800 then that's a big improvement.  Package for £800pp = £1600 based on 2 sharing.  You should be able to fly direct for <£500 each, which leaves you £600 ($900) for a room.  Based on 5 nights, you should be able to get something considerably better for that (+ the direct flight.)

All good points but the Direct Flight is a must 3-4 hours spent in Philadelphia Airport is a lifetime!

re the flights, check Virgin's "miles plus money" fares, 2000 miles costs £45 and the saving usually exceeds that

I did a sticky thread for another forum for some guys who haven't been before so excuse some of the stuff which most will already know. I think most of it should be quite helpful though

'Cheapovegas' Although some of the info is a little dated, on the whole it's pretty accurate with the insight to each establishment.
It is also written from the point of view of a 'normal' person if you like, which is more useful imo

Flights

You can sometimes shave a few quid off your flights by going with an american based carrier, I would just stick with Virgin myself as I've found them to be the easiest to deal with and occasionally you can bink a nice upgrade, as well as not having to change somewhere in the US.

http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/index.jsp

If you are looking to save a few quid these sites listed below are decent (If anybody has any better suggestions then please let me know and I'll add them)

www.orbitz.com

www.ebookers.com

www.expedia.co.uk

If you are wanting to fly from the north, there is one flight a week from Manchester with Thomas Cook.

http://www.thomascook.com

Hotels

www.harrahs.com

This will give you an idea of the rough figures you can expect to pay for each hotel in the Harrahs chain. Once you know this you can go to the other sites I will list below and work out how much you can save.

The other benefit is if you get it cheaper elsewhere you can always contact them and notify them. The likelihood is they will offer you the same price direct.

http://www.kasbah.com/

http://www.hotelscombined.com/

http://www.i4vegas.com/

http://www.bestofvegas.com/hotels/

www.booking.com

www.ebookers.com

www.smartervegas.com

The site above has a list of promotional codes for a number of hotels in Vegas, which are valid for varying periods of time. Some are just for the next month or so and others could be valid for the rest of the year.

Average cost of a trip

I would say that for each week you are spending in Vegas I would allow £500 for food and drink. This gives you a couple nice meals a week, few nights on the pi55 and other incidental costs.

A hotel can cost you from £180 approx for the Imperial Palace, to £650 approx for the Wynn/Venetian

A midrange hotel right on the centre of the strip is going to set you back around £250-300 approx.

I would always pay the extra little bit to stay in one of these rather than the Imperial Palace. Whilst it has a bed and a shower etc. I wouldn't even entertain the idea if you are travelling with partner.

I'm not a hotel snob I just know it's by far the worst place I've ever stayed in Vegas and for a minute amount of money more you can get a much better hotel.

Poker money required is all down to the individual, you need as much as is required to play the tournament/ring games you wish to play.

There are tournaments and cash games for every bankroll up and down the strip, so it's never gonna be a problem to get a game!

Capping off I would say that for a week in Vegas you are looking at costs of:

£500 Flight + your domestic flights to London if required

£250-300 centre strip hotel

£500 food and incidentals money (you may find you have some left over and this is aimed to make it the case)

£xxx Poker bankroll

£xxx hookers and blow

So I'd say for £1300 + poker money you can have a great week there and just add on £800 for every extra week you want to stay.

You can obviously trim the food expenditure by eating at Dennys/McDonalds etc. I think it's nice when you are on holiday to get some nice dinners in and treat yourself though.

Cheap Bites

Just a shortlist of places that do some decent cheap and cheap-ish food

Ellis Island: One block off the strip (Behind Ballys I believe). Basically it does steaks/bbq pizzas and all similar types of stuff. They have a steak special for under $10 which is meant to be really good. It also has a microbrewery?

Food courts: There are food courts all over Vegas with a
variety of foods available. Chinese, Burgers, Mexican, Pizza and just about anything else. Situated both in casinos and along the strip.

Outback Steakhouse: Located above Casino Royale, this place does the usual stuff you'd expect. Not mindblowing but decent value for money.

Peppermill Lounge: Another diner on the strip located near to the Wynn. Big portions and open 24hrs I'm pretty sure.

TI Buffet: One of the best value buffets in Vegas, with all the usual varieties.

Grand Lux Cafe: They have one of these in both the Palazzo and Venetian. Lots of variety and big portions.
