seeing as i had placed the bet with the trainee doctor
Well i think the word TRAINEE says it all or the guy does not have a clue what he is talking about IMO He knows enough to be able to set an impossible physical challenge as a wager.

I think the fact that the good doctor bet against him says more.

Just so you now the salt intake would of make you very ill good chance of putting you in a coma
no chance of that... as long as i kept drinking while doing it there is no chance of going into a coma... Hahahahaah your really are thick.......You plan you eat 100 grams of salt, 20 time your daily intake in 2 hour and you think your body is going to take it cos your going to drink some water with it, Can we please have a doctor to tell him, Salt has an LD50 (ie lethal dose 50%) of 1g/kg - so of 100 people weighing 60kg you'd expect half to snuff it after eating 60g. http://msds.chem.ox.ac.uk/SO/sodium_chloride.htmlReading wiki for nik naks some are .2g/bag, one flavour .3g/bag (nice n spicy) - so if he ate 100 nice n spicys he's not far of fhalf the dose that'll kill 50% of 60kg people. It'd be his gamble on where in the bell curve of poisoning he'd fit... He's probably got the odds not to snuff it unless he's really small and skinny, but I'd fold personally.

is it actually possible to eat that much salt though? pretty sure the body has an auto defence mechanism to stop it involving crippling stomach cramps long before you get to fatal doses

There was someone died a few years back after the top came off his salt cellar, pouring the lot on his food, & rather than chuck the meal out he ate it. Probably he ate it all before the defense mechanisms could kick in (as in before there was enough digested to alert the body) - and only throwing up enough could save him.

I'm more concerned that you thought he'd be in danger of dying and decided not to say anything until after he attempted it.
