They sent me a tax refund last year without me even asking. Just got a letter in the post with a cheque attached. Best bit was I knew they owed it me but was too lazy to go and actually ask them for it. Nice suprise when I realised they sent it me anyway Smiley

you run sooooo good nana! Hope I get a cheque they prob owe me thousands!!

my experience with the inland revenue is that they work from a default position of you owe them until you prove otherwise - and then they lose your form when they realise they owe you 000's, and it takes 3 years to recover and then they continue to chase you on the following years where you [  ] owe them, despite the numbers and format not being dissimilar to previous years.

bunch of *****! I and dont use that word lightly!

Used to work for them, that sounds like 99% of the staff Smiley

Ive been on a BR tax code a couple of times in the last year so i think im due some tax back but how do i claim for it? do they do it automatically? i rang a number about 5 times today and could i fck get thru to someone!

Well done on picking the worse week of the year to ring the tax office.

If you've been on BR you'll definitely get some back, probably quite a lot of it if you've not earnt 20k+

You won't get it automatically though, you def need to ring them. Leave it 2 weeks and ring them again.

If you get a proper job on a tax code they'll just take it off that. If you stay on BR you'll just get a cheque or bank tx.

what happened was I was working as a poker dealer at gala then I got a driving job with an agency so I did both jobs fir a while then I quit the casino for the agency! In feb I was made permanent by my company so was back on br tax for a month!

So I shud ring them in 2weeks or will they auto deduct it from my wages?

If you were back on a normal tax code that didnt end W1 for March then you have probably already had it back mate.

Yeah the 1 means its on a week by week basis, not cumulative.
You will be owed about 27.40 per week you were on BR code.
Contrary to belief on here, as long as all your employers submit the correct details the cheque should get to you.

wait until end of tax year submissions have been made, which shouldn't be long

look at what you earned and what tax you paid and pursue it if you still feel you have paid too much tax.

Not sure how many jobs youve had Girgs this year but if you have been on BR a few times there is a chance your P60 will be incorrect.

In fact scratch that, you ended the year on a W1 code so your P60 will probably wrong because W1 basically means HMRC have lost track of you during the year.

If you've kept your pay slips from all your jobs then yes eventually you will. PAYE is a great way of collecting tax if you have one job so it was useful when it came in in the 1940's nowadays its what you guys call tez Smiley

Lol. You've waited about a week.

They are not robbing tw**s at all. You will get exactly what you're entitled to the same as everyone else.

The IR can't rob you and won't rob you. I never understand people who call the IR thieves.

If you don't like paying tax go and live somewhere like Somalia. You won't have to pay anything there.
