I was meant to have done one of these by now, as promised on my staking thread but having come back on monday night I literally jumped straight back into a busy week at work.
Part 1
The Irish Open is not an event I envisaged playing. I rarely play satellites, the event is obviously well out of my personal bankroll and a much higher buy in than events I can play in my deal with Niall Blakey (blonde member Blatch).
Greek Easter normally falls a few weeks apart from English Easter but this year it fell on the same weekend. Being such family oriented people I was under strict instruction from mammaGreek that I couldn't even travel to Notts to play the DTD £300. We had the family invited here. Sigh. On the monday lunchtime I'm checking my facebook at work and see a message from Brian 'BAM' Martin and promptly call him. As it transpires, a Romanian student had won a seat to the event in a 4000 runner freeroll but was unable to attend. He posted on a forum I'd never visited before called Punter's Lounge and was going to give away the seat. I think obviously a very inexperienced guy with poker full stop and just unaware of what he could do in the situation. I think Brian saw the message early and said something along the lines of 'take your post down you muppet, I'll get someone to take the seat and I'll be in touch'. Brian has a conversation with the guy and he adds me on facebook. Initially I'm under the impression I'm going to play the event on a one off 50-50 deal with the guy. However, our first convo was something like this...
Cos: Yo Romania Alex: Alright Olive head Cos: So I understand you can't make the Irish Open and are wanting to give the seat away? Alex: Yeah. Cos: Cool, what did you have in mind? Alex: Well, I want 350 euros and 10% of your action.
I obviously now wait for a few minutes while he types out that he also wants $2k on full tilt or something. Not to be.
Cos: Well kid, you drive a hard bargain. I was only gonna give you 250 but seeing as you seem a nice guy I'll do 350.
Now after this I was still a little wary but I'd seen screenshots of him winning the sat and email correspondence with a guy from Paddypower, who I checked actually worked there and made sure everything was ok. I transferred half the money before and the other half once the seat was in my name. Wiiii I was finally going to Ireland to play my biggest ever tourney.
I asked Brian if he wanted a % in return but he insisted a Guinness would do. I planned on giving Brian some money if I cashed anyway but all this was proper run good stuff.
The savings I have aren't accessible at the moment so I was keen to sell off a little of my action in order to freeroll the trip. I ask Brian if he's ok with that and I get a thumbs up. He might make Jack Dee look like the happiest man ever but he's a good lad is Brian. Complete briefcase wanker though obv.
The staking thread was a bit of a mega sigh....
Part 2 to follow.

meh bit harsh. Obviously naive but he's a Romanian student who won the seat in a freeroll. I think he was more than happy with 10% of my action and 350 euros at the time. He's also not emmersed in the poker world like us and doesn't know what's what. I think he was going to give the seat away. I mean I knew I was getting it at way less than what it was worth but I wasn't going to say anything!

Can we drop the word 'retarded'? This isn't America, and it's a word we'd prefer not used on blonde.
Thanks.
