£100 freezeout , 120+ runners , 7,500 chips , 25 minute blinds.

Its 10 minutes into level 1 blinds 25/50 all players have have virtually their starting stack.

I get kings in the big blind
UTG raises to 175
Middle position min reraise to 350
All passed to me where i re pop it to 1200
UTG passes
Reraiser goes all in
Decision back to me.......i think for a while and decide to release it

My thinking was that even though i'm in front i didn't want to take the risk of getting outdrawn this early in a comp. The min re raise to from 175 to 350 scared me too. I figured if it was AK it would have been much bigger ,its a move some people make with aces although it could also be possible he had a big pair like KK or QQ or was merely pot building and taking a gamble to double up early.

Whatever he had i didn't want to risk running into a set  , flopped ace etc.....

I know a lot of players wouldn't dream of passing in this situation.

Any thoughts on this pass ? Right or too weak?

Horrible pass with reasoning, please never fold what you think is the best hand because you don't want to go out early in a comp you may as well not bother turning up on time.I'm not folding kings pre because I'm not good enough to but I wouldn't mind it so much if you knew the player and so had reason to believe he only has aces here.

More often than than not when I think my oppo couldn't possibly play aces in such a terrible way they always have aces.

I'd like to fold but I wouldn't.  In cash online I'd snap.

And if I do fold I am not folding becuase I don't want to go out early, I am folding because he has aces.

^ Yeah your reasoning for folding is a lot worse than the actual fold itself.

I don't think i'd be 4bet folding kings pre in a £100 game with 7.5k stacks and a 25 minute clock, but I have folded them pre before in bigger comps when the guy could only have aces given the action(live obviously, never online)

If you're going to take the route you did then at least only make it 800/900 at most, why waste an extra few hundred chips.

that is the worst reason I've ever heard for passing anything. if you really feel that way then go sit at the bar and come back later in the comp when you don't mind being outdrawn

Sorry m8 but this is a shocker.

Maybe I could pass Kings in a cash game to the right player but even I can't pass them this early in a tournament (and I'm supposedly the tightest player in the universe). It is so vital to chip up soon that you just have to lump 'em in and if he has aces then unlucky, good game etc etc.

Maybe in a very deep structure I could find a pass with a strong tell but not in a £100 crapshoot.

It sounds like this tourney is too big a buy in for you if it is making you this conservative.

The variance is so high in tournaments - cash games are a better and more consistent form of income. Give those a whirl for a bit and then come back to similar tournaments and get your damn chips in with Kings.

The only time I remember folding KK is when I've misclicked.

Anything but a snap call here is terrible I'm afraid.

Why exactly are we worried about someone hitting their 20% or 30% shot?

You may get some stick for this one mate but just learn from it.

Passing KK is fine if you think you're behind. Passing it in case you get beaten in a 70/30 or 80/20 is not fine.

I don't mind passing QQ here because you think you may be racing but when you are likely a big favourite it needs to go in the middle.

If the guy flips AA just bink.

I remember when I used to play and I would let myself get down to 2bbs so that I could min cash and would be chuffed wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

There was a reason I did that.... I didn't know any better Smiley

Don't take the stick personal,It's a bad fold, now you know not to do it again so thread delivers
