My contracts running out in the next few weeks and i cant decide over the htc or samsung galaxy s?? Any advice peeps.
I'm looking at the alternatives now as well. The Desire and Galaxy S both look good, but it's such a shame that the Droid X won't be coming to the UK. Looks like the dog's licky bits. It's only on Verizon in the states, so that means you can't even buy it there and bring it back to the UK to get it unlocked and put a UK SIM in it, sigh.
Ty, I don't think you'll go massively wrong with either of those two. I might even wait a few months and see what else is due to come out.

Got the Galaxy S a couple of weeks back - mostly pleased with it - the screen is amaxingly clear and the video is better than the wife's Flip
But...
Twice so far it has just lost signal totally and I've had to put the SIM card into my old phone. I'm waiting for Orange to call me back in 10 minutes (since Saturday afternoon...)

Not sure what the new ones are going to be. All got 'codenames' such as the 'ace', the 'G2' (that's what they're calling it in the US, we call the Hero the G2 over here already), 'vision'. Not sure which ones will be coming to the UK and which won't.
So it's the Galaxy S, the Desire or the Nexus if you want one now (and maybe one or two others).
The Desire would probably be my choice if I was getting one today.

I believe, the soon to be rolled out, Android v2.2 will bring HD video to the Desire... something that the Galaxy has already.

2.2 is already out for a lot of phones (especially if you've rooted your phone, you can make sure you get it before it's released by your provider). It seems to be a pretty big jump from 2.1 (which was a big jump from the previous version of android). Flash 10.1 for the browser is a nice touch as well.

Things like the wireless tethering that turns the phone into a wi-fi hotspot were available before, but only if the phone was rooted. Really handy feature that I use a fair bit when I'm out and about.

Since doing this is against the mobile operators' t&c... this will almost certainly be disabled in their branded firmware releases.
I've just ordered a Desire, on a decent (compared to my current package) deal, from mobiles.co.uk. They're part of Carphone Wharehouse group and allegedly send out un-locked, un-branded phones. I'll know for sure tomorrow.

Well I've had the HTC Desire for 3 days now and I think it's great. I'm only just scratched the surface of what it can do and what apps are available, but this how it looks at the moment -
