This is from the letters page. Just one man's opinion isn't it?
Big jump to say he represents all the readers.
This would never be reported as "People of Yeovil give their opinion on the World Cup"

Well, not really... I mean you wouldn't say he necessarily represents all the readers. But I don't think you'd find the Guardian printing his letter.

It's not fake.

You have to remember what that paper stands for, and some of the vile stuff that their columnists put out.

Littlejohn once wrote:  "Does anyone really give a monkey's about what happens in Rwanda? If the Mbongo tribe wants to wipe out the Mbingo tribe then as far as I am concerned that is entirely a matter for them."

That just about sets the tone for that pathetic excuse for a paper.

If we're talking about the majority then I'm going to take a wild guess that he's right though.

Obviously someone gives a monkey's but I'll bet there's not many. Plenty will pretend they care but I'll bet it's way down most people's priority lists.

You're probably right in a sense. But I think that in order to be right, you're interpreting his statement very generously - ignoring all its nuance - as well as massively over-simplifying the question.

He's just trying to get me to bite Mosk.

Littlejohn is a bigoted and dangerous man.  Unfortunately, there are many who actually agree with his views.

There are no pubs in your area then, just cocktail lounges, wine bars and gastro pubs.

By definition, it's not a proper pub unless it contains at least one loud mouthed bigot who wants to send someone back to somewhere.

Some areas in the UK aren't full of wankers.

Not trying to get you to bite mate. There's loads of easier ways to do that.

It was a genuine comment from a person who knows very little about Mr Littlejohn or his views.

The way he puts this across is a bit harsh but seriously who does care?

My list of priorities doesn't include Rwanda, Umbongo bongo land, France, Spain, Germany etc... even that much about the general population of the UK if I'm honest.

In my opinion the majority of people in the UK just get on with their lives in happy ignorance of what's going on outside of their circle.

I'm not a bigoted person in any way and I don't wish hurt upon anybody. However, if some tribe wants to have a big rumble with another tribe I won't be losing any sleep over it.

Obviously I'm just taking this statement in isolation. If you combine it with other statements he's made then I imagine it looks far worse.

Tribe having a rumble with another tribe?  Is this a level?

As for Littlejohn, the bloke is a bigoted idiot and this is highly representative of his way of thinking.

This is the problem with these kind of statements.

At no point has the statement or yourself referenced the Rwandan genocide. He mentions Rwanda but how am I supposed to know that he's talking about the killing of 800000 people?

I hate to admit this as well but it's hard to say that I actually cared. Sure I would prefer that it never happened but it did and there's nothing I can do about it and it didn't affect my life at all.

These kind of things are way down mine and I'm guessing many other's lists of priorities.

Discussions down the pub:

England / world cup - lots
Politics - a fair bit
Women - plenty
Cost of diesel - loads
Rwandan genocide - Erm.....

Look at this tiny list above. Prioritise them for yourself. How high up is the genocide in Rwanda?

Yes it was a humanitarian travesty of gargantuan proportions I don't deny that one bit but I'm still struggling to honestly say that it affected me enough for me to really care.

Tell you what then mate let's put all these tragedies at the top of our priority list and actually do something about it.

We'll put everything else to one side because clearly this is more important than other trivial things that are going on.

We'll try to form some kind of group and actually do something pro-active and speak up for what we believe are the important things.

I'll meet you tonight  about 7.30 and we'll sort it.

That sound good or have you got something more important to do?

I love how the people that parade their ignorance about the things happening in the world manage to be condescending about it.......
