As the thread title suggests i am in need of some serious poker advice.
I am suffering a terrible run at the moment which has been going on for about 4-5 months.  I play MTT's normally between 3 and 5 times a week, not a huge volume, generally between 3 and 6 tourneys a night.
Up until this bad run i was at an average ROI of between 30 and 40% and ITM was always at 20% or higher.  This year i am running at -64% and ITM is 16% (which is even higher than i thought!).
I know the reasons for this, i have suffered more bad beats than i care to remember and cannot win a race at all, even when 70/30 favourite.

So the advice i am looking for is the best way to change it.  I tried stopping for a week and came back but nothing changed, so after a while i stopped for almost 2 weeks.  There is still no change though.  I tried playing on a different site but the same happened. I have had to reduce my buy-ins by half as my banfroll dimenshies so i am playing smaller buy in tourneys.

Should i just try to play my way through it, or should i look at taking an extended break?

There are no such things as bad beats and this surely cannot be the sole reason?

Do you use HEM have you analysed your leaks?

Breaks are good as long as you use the time wisely eg books, training sites, blogs etc just having a break and not studying the game and then picking up where you left off is bad

Every MTT'ers goes through a prolonged period where they feel like they cannot win a hand/tourney at some point or another.  My advice is to play through it, if you feel like you're still playing close to your best and that your recents results isnt sending you insane to the point where its affecting how you play then volume is the best way to get through it.

Very much this Matt.

You've previously proven yourself to be a decent player.

i like this advice. I also try to reduce my buy ins thourhg this pahse, so that the beats feel slightly less brutal, the winless streak costs less, and the opponents are slightly worse

Thanks for the advice, playing through it was kinda what i was hoping to hear as i do believe that i am still playing well and that it has to change soon.

I may start posting some hands on PHA as well just to get some additional views on some hands.

if you do play through it though, make sure your decision making process etc is not being affected by your bad run of results. It can be possible that you become more timid (not restealing, taking flips etc) because of the effect of your bad run. So analysing your play is important.

Sometimes a rest is as good as a change and i have found taking a break from playing can help

There is really no need to do this unless the downswing has resulted in

a)your play diminishing due to confidence taking a hit

or

b) you no longer being properly rolled for the same buy-ins

If neither of the above are true then you should just carry on as normal, otherwise the only result is that you will often win less when the luck changes for the better than you would if you had remained playing your normal buy-ins.

matt i went through a period of about 2 years like this

just make sure your minds in right place when you do play

make sure your still enjoying it

and just forget the beats when they happen

eventually variance will swing back in your favour and

you have to make sure your head is in right place to

capitialise on this when i happens
