So, I was travelling all day yesterday - glasgow to mexico, involving three flights and was disappointed that I was going to miss the football - obv japan vs paraguay wasnt much of an issue, but spain vs portugal was due to kick off half an hour into my second flight from Newark to Houston.

so there I was, as the plane was hurtling down the runway, swiping my credit card in the slot to watch 'directTV', which looks pretty much like the sky EPG. I chose ESPN and spent the next two hours of the flight in the company of martin tyler, watching the game live. All for $5.

At the time I thought it was great, but when you think about it, its like the last little bit of solitude you have left, where you arent bothered by mobile phones, blackberrys , emails, TV etc has now gone. AA now provide wireless internet on most US domestic flights, and all airlines are on the brink of allowing mobile phone usage throughout the flight time...

Sounds good to me. Virgin America had  wireless and DirecTV competitor (can't remember the name) on my flight from Vegas to NY earlier in the month. Matter of time until it comes over this side of the pond.

Can't say I fly for the solitude mind, just want to get somewhere.

Having access to TV and internet = good
Having access to mobile phones/Skype = calamity

Just hearing the shit some people talk on the trains/buses is enough to put me on tilt.

Reminds me of this (3:38 -> 3:52)
