Just after Leicester went into administration, i went to a Q & A with Mickey Adams, he said the club had got rid of all the scouts and him and Dave Bassett were doing the lot.

Searching for players that is ok, but scouting teams is obv difficult for managers themselves as they usually have a game of there own on the same days.

What do you reckon Morrison or Mellor is on at Weds a week?

I'd guess a months wages for either covers a good chunk for a seaons scouting.

but there are times when crowd expectations are way above the level of players. charlton is a prime example, we were a premier league club a couple of years ago, in fact we were challenging for europe and the fans haven't adapted and still expect to see a high level of performance despite the fact that the players are now league 1 standard. that can lead to a lot of (completely irrational) disappointment and frustration in the ground even if the players are performing at their best. not a lot a manager can do to counter that and it's hardly a surprise that some players are affected by 15-20k people booing them

Yeah that's a fair point and I obviously don't know how bad the booing is at Charlton but surely the fans still cheer a win, no?

of course but the original point that you replied to was that on occasion, not all the time, the crowd can be a negative factor

it's been quite cleverly almost eliminated at charlton by the new chairman bringing in a club legend as manager, someone who everyone is willing to give more time to turn things around

After the Rochdale game was called off there is no other team assessment to do of course, as the games that need covering have already been assigned to someone.  So, just keeping on top off whats on offer in League 2 I got the 20 minute train ride to Crewe V Stevenage, after a quick call to the club, and they in turn rang Crewe to put a ticket on.

Poor game really, I was long gone by the time the 87th minute winner went in, surface didn't help.  Very little between most L2 teams, 10-12 could make the play-offs yet.

Only seen this thread recently. Interesting read.

Unfortunately I watch Wednesday and the club is in a mess.

There is a new owner and no debt which is a massive plus, but there is something seriously wrong with the mindset of the players. In the summer we signed a number of player who on paper were good quality for L1. Clinton Morrison, Neil Mellor, Gary Teale, Chris Sedgwick etc.

BTW, they must be on £4-7k per week minimum.

In January, Irvine signed Madine from Carlisle, Reynolds from Motherwell (who was subject to a £750k bid from Rangers last year), M Morrison from Leicester for £250k, Reda Johnson from Plymouth who was their captain and Osborne on loan from Aston Villa who is a quality player for L1.

And we are still getting hammered every game.

Makes you wonder WTF has been happening under the coaching genius that was Alan Irvine.

Scary stuff if you're a Wednesday fan.

wednesdayite here aswell, went to birmingham to watch a disgrace of a performance, we lost the goals on schoolboy errors rather than technical ability.
Just thinking, almost ever player that ever been to wednsday, bar the 1991/92 3rd place finising team, has peaked elsewhere, it seems that there is a core problem with the coaching staff/backroom staff, and has been for years.
The players we have now are all just tall skinny lads, and we have zero physical presence. Even though megson and his father don, both played for wednesday i would have taken john sheridan in a heartbeat instead. No one cared more than sheridan on the pitch
and we need a guy like him at the helm. Expect us to really struggle to survive this season. Its getting embarrassing

No easy solutions I'm afraid.

It's stay up this season and then rebuild the squad and their mindset/confidence pre season.

Too many players in comfort zones for me. Expecting to p!ss the league when they are coming up against motivated, aggressive and well organised units who play as a team.

Alot of these players need moving on (easier said than done). Megson will be in their faces though and wont suffer fools.

Need to build a team spirit and desire which doesn't exist currently.

Bit of a blow for you Chip. Reckon Rochdale Saints would have been a good game.

Off to the franchise on saturday, 1st look at Brighton this season surprisingly.

Should be a decent crowd I expect, although not sure what the travelling Brighton support is like for numbers.

Having a spot of car trouble so may get the train yet, was very surprised to see from Chester it was only 1:26min to MK, for about 150 miles, but that is in turn 4 miles from the ground, although you can get to Bletchley which is 2 miles approx from the ground according to footballgroundguide.co.uk

Will make a decision today.

MK crowds not to shabby to be fair, 7-9k not that bad for L1?

I wonder if they'll ever finish seating the top level there?

the top level seating was designed to go in when a) we won the world cup bid or b) MKD reached the Championship

crowds are on the up. Although not a fan of the concept, and what it meant for the old club, its a huge catchment area and over time they'll only grow imo

As to travel, the ground is right on the south of the city and reasonably remote from public transport

I'd go to MK central and get a £5-6 cab there, booking it for the way back

Nice ground, superb seating. Bright young manager too
