Tuesday the 16th of August was a long trip by midweek standards for me, to Scunthorpe.  Had to finish work a little earlier and left Chester at 4:30, made it to the ground by 7:15 through the Manchester area traffic and managed to sneak in a quick KFC which is right by the ground!

They were playing Oldham, who surprisingly won 2-1.  I've taken scunthorpe in a couple of match bets v other teams and they're struggling to shake off relegation I think and look to have a hangover, we'll see.

Last Tuesday, the 23rd it was back to the Carling Cup 2nd round and I was at Burnley v Barnet, as Colchester played Barnet this tuesday gone, and lost 3-1 in the Johnstone's paint trophy.

Surprised how bashed up Burnley looked!  Not been there before and with no parking took the safe option and parked 1/2 a mile away and walked down to the ground.  Finished 3-2 after extra time to Burnle who were 2-0 at one point.  Rodriguez & Austin looked good for them, but think they'll only be mid-table this season.

Those pics at Burnley were taken at half time, and the ground looks empty almost, but think there were nearly 5k there somewhere!

Championship = Rodriguez (Burnley)
L1 = Jack Hunt (Huddersfield)
L2 = McLeod & Marshall from Barnet

Going to Burnley in a couple of weeks. Parents live nearby now. I'm a huge Rodriguez fan. Think i'm adopting them as my championship team.

What do you reckon to Ryan Lowe? Seems to get goals but I was surprised when I heard he was 32. Last shot at "the big time" with Wednesday.

Average L2 player for 10 years Lowe, then suddenly last 18 months something clicked big style.

I'm not sure to be honest, likable guy though, typical scouser.

Haven't you already got Morrison, madine, o'grady and someone like ucheyi?

looks a good signing on the surface but I've been wondering why no other clubs were in for him, what did you pay?

not looking forward to him scoring against us on monday, it can't have happened very often, scoring in consecutive games against the same club with different clubs

Between 100-150k is what I've heard.
Madine's started the season well O'Grady arrived but is not fit so we've not really seen him. I don't think Megson really rates Morrison but has kept him as a 4th choice striker. Not sure if Ucheyi is even a footballer. Loaning from Nigeria just seems desperate. He's had a few loans and nobody has taken him permanently. Got a feeling we won't either but Megson got him in on loan as a 4th choice while he searched for a new striker. He's played carling cup games and JPT so i think he's back up. He's also been deployed wide when we're desperate as he's got decent pace.
Hope Lowe does well for us but would have preferred Milan to get the money together for Le Fondre. Our bid total was enough just not the way we were paying it which seems a bit daft.
 Don't think we're top 2 material though but hope we can get into the play-offs.

Friday night I was at Deepdale for Preston v Yeovil, cracker it was too, really enjoyed the game even as a neutral, 38 shots on goal, Preston scored 4 and hit the post another 4 times, real belter, a managers nightmare though I think, preston never comfortable even at 3-1 and 4-2 up.

Ian Hume clever, Mellor always going to score a few in this league, not really sure where Preston will finish though, thought Clarke Carlisle looked a liability for them to be honest.

Yeovil ok, should survive again I think.

Oh, went down to the press room at h/t for a drink, strange site seeing El Hadj Diouf surrounding by 4 women!

Off to Chesterfield tomorrow for the 1st time in the new stadium, went to the old place a few times, think the last time was about '07 when they beat Millwall 5-1 in one of Spackman's few games in charge.  Another ground to tick off, nearly at 50 now.

Any plans to see Sheff Utd or Brentford anytime soon?
Think the league will be quite open. I worry that Huddersfield are coming into some form though. Surprised that Charlton didn't beat us last as our away form has been poor and we looked awful. Saw us against MK Dons at the weekend and they look a different team at home. MK Dons keep the ball well but I was never felt like they were going to score. I was also surprised at how badly they dealt with balls in the air. Madine and Marshall look good for us. Clinton also didn't stop running and I'd sort of given up on him.
Despite being poor at Charlton I'm really happy with 4 points from those games. 2 away games this week and games like this could make the difference between chasing promotion and chasing play offs. Most of the other teams near the top seem to be playing one of the others at least once this week.

Colchester are playing Brentford tonight, and Sheff Utd on saturday (someone else is going to there game v Hudd tonight), so unless I come across them v other teams i'm watching that possible not.

Col are playing Wednesday on the 22nd Oct, so may get a look at them soon.

He's good for the way Hudd play, they play 4-5-1 most games, they've got good wide players to do it, when it turns into a 4-3-3.  Think this is the reason they've gone 15+ away games without losing.

He's not the quickest but works hard and tries to hold it up, don't think he'll ever score bucket loads, similar to Lambert from Saints, but I think Lambert has something extra about him, eg he scores spectacular goals too, not sure Novak does, not many anyway, just striker finishes and decent headers.

Not a game that grabs the imagination but I fancy Leyton Orient to get their first win against an out of sorts Bournemouth tonight.

I was also surprised that Wimbledon are NOT odds-on to beat woeful Northampton at home???

I also think Macclesfield are out of sorts since selling Sinclair, so Morcambe should be shorter than they are to win away tonight.

Those are my 3 games for a bit of interest Smiley
