Being a very keen match angler myself, this event always keeps me glued to SkySports all afternoon so I thought I'd post my views as there may be a bit of value on Betfair if you get it right.

Things to look out for:

"End Pegs" in match fishing tend to have a bit of an advantage as you don't have an angler on both sides of you, so technically you could have more fish in your swim to try and catch.  Last years match was won by end peg 16, however this year the end pegs (1 and 16) will have a "pleasure angler" next to them to get rid of the possible advantage.  We will wait and see if this happens.

If there is a good breeze blowing into your peg, then this is good news, as fish follow the wind!  Tactics will be to feed down the side for later in the match when the fish are confident to feed there.

Best bait on the day IMO will be to fish chopped worm and Casters.  Casters are a maggot which is getting ready to hatch into a fly.  They're nice and crunchy and fish love 'em.

Not suprisingly, peg 16 is only a 4/1 shot and time will tell whether the "blocker" anglers have an influence on the catch rate of the end pegs.

This article might help you pick a winner, or some value.  I'll be on Tommy Pickering as he's a very good angler, and for a bit of value, end peg 1.

My Dad's keen on fishing and has been watching this on and off today, he kind of knows Tom and tipped him too, was a bit unlucky in the last half hour or so to get pipped at the post.

Always next year.

lol, I know where you're coming from, I feel the same way about fishing, but like everything, there's a lot more to it than meets the eye.  My Dad's well into it and keeps me up to date on a Monday morning (we work together) about the weekends fishing, there's quite a bit too it.

sigh, i wasnt actually knocking Fishing. Just, being 'stuck to the tv watching it' made me laugh a bit.

Personally, i would have no problem at all with someone slating a hobby i might have and wouldnt care in the slightest if they hated it or thought it was 'effin shite'.
