Have you considered leasing?

no, is this quite popular?

Not getting involved with cars which I know nothing about

why not change your signature to I support thieves?

Best Regards

found a really nice option, £170 a month for a Volkswagen Polo, £45 insurance.  Wish i'd looked into this before buying the mondeo.  I'm paying 100 a month on a loan and 80 a month for insurance, take into account how much it has cost me at the garage and i've lost a small fortune!

Leasing looks incred!

There's plenty of good lease deals out there Sov.

It'll cost you slightly more than buying but you get no hassle and a new car every 2 or 3 years meaning hardly any maintenance charges.

It's worth speaking to the dealers as well about leasing options. They often have some good deals on when they are pushing a particular model.

I've leased my last four cars.

Take a look at http://www.contracthireandleasing.com/. In my experience, lease companies have specials of the month. These specials generally can't be matched at dealers. The finance companies bulk buy particular models to drive down the price then give finance packages to suit. These specials will be far more attractive than picking a certain car and then trying to get it for the best price. For example, I was looking to lease a 3 series at one point, and by the time my position was right to lease it, the specials had expired and the car was almost £100 per month more.

In April this year, I started a lease on a new A5. My lease company http://www.scorpion-vehicles.co.uk/ had an offer on it at the time and the lease deal by the dealer was no where near that of Mark Bashforth's at Scorpion.

When looking at prices though make sure you are asking for a personal lease (with VAT) as opposed to the business prices most lease companies quote (less VAT). Other things to take into consideration is the mileage you will be doing. Most deals will be quoted at 10k pa. If you want say 15k, or even 30k, that will increase the monthly cost quite substantially. Also, remember that lease deals are drafted around the residual value of the car at the end of the lease term. Therefore if you add, say a £500 wheel upgrade, to the original specification, you will pay this rather than it being subsidised by the residual of the vehicle as the wheel upgrade has no effect on the vehicles residual value. (e.g. Over 3 years this would be £500/36 months = £13.88 pm extra)

I like that you can also have a new car every 2 or 3 years too! Smiley

Finally just remember that at the end of the term the car has to be returned in a fair wear and tear state. This basically means spotless in my experience. If it's not, get the interior marks/repairs/paintwork/chipped wheels/etc repaired yourself as they will sting you upon return of the vehicle if they haven't already been seen to.

I hope this helps.

Paul.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago on an A5.

£480 p/m when I first enquired then £620 about a week later!!!!

My sister One of Cos' friends got a great deal on a Lexus IS220 2 years ago. £320 p/m including leather, sports pack and big wheels.

Make sure you shop around Sov. There's some bargains out there if leasing's your bag and Paul has got it pretty much spot on here.

MrsB got a new Fiat500 roundabout christmas time. 9k and Arnold Clark give you a 5k money back guarantee after 4 years (or something like that)

She loves the car and it really is quite good for a car that costs less than 10k.

as long as you go into lease deal knowing that you are not buying the car - you are basically just renting it over a long term, and that at the end of it you will have nothing to show for your money. think of it a bit like renting vs buying a house.

LMAO at a car dealer calling anyone a thief.

One thing to bear in mind when leasing. Sometimes it pays to lie about your annual mileage.
The key is to know what the excess milage penalties are.
For example on my last Honda it was cheaper to put down 10k miles p.a even though I knew I was going to do more than 10k miles because it was cheaper than getting a quote at 15k.

Always know the excess mileage numbers and they change from car to car

As long as you don't mind paying over the odds then yes this is a great site.

Sneaky.

But yes he's spot on.

Some can be as low as 6p per mile so an extra 5000 miles is only £300 or £25 per month. It would probably be more than £25 extra per month if you declared the 15k miles at the start.
