i would suggest playing online to learn rather than playing in a casino.
you can see a lot more hands per hour which is always going to help speed up your learning. Id suggest playing small stakes sit n goes (would advise this over playing with play money just so the money gives u more of an interest in the game) where u can learn the very basics, and get used to the different stages of the game quickly.
pretty much this.
a well known phrase in poker, is its takes 5 minutes to learn, a life time to master.
playing online to start with is probably the best option, like buzz says you get to see many more hands per hour, so you are gaining experience a lot quicker.
when i started i played small buy in SNG's (sit and goes, single table tournements) after i learned the basics, i then played small buy in tournements online....average $3-5 buy in.
the biggest mistake new players make is playing too many hands, stick to the premiums AA KK QQ WELL MOST PAIRS and AK,AQ,AJ,KQ once you have learned how to play these hands, then and only then think about bringing other hands into your game.
