So, I've seen this thread, and switched over to Sky Sports News (which I only ever normally watch on transfer deadline day).

I see v v v pretty presenter.

I do a bit of googling.

I discover she's engaged to the Peter Crouch lookalike sat next to her!

WP son, nice work there.

If it's about spending money then he needs shooting for walking. He's spent a fortune in previous seasons for a club not in the Champions League and every club in the world bar one is cutting it's spending heavily.

He has built a fantastic team at Villa and it looks like the main players are going to be sold.

Must be disheartening for a manager.

A year off and then replace Fergie at Man United is my guess at his future.

Really? By all accounts Maureen is a shoe in after Real sack him in about 2 weeks.

My sentiments too.

I agree with this bit but he knew Milner was going weeks ago. I think it's more about not being given all of the £30m to spend, in which case it's a crazy walk out. Utd, Chelsea, and even "candy from a baby" Spurs aren't spending.

And spending cant be justified either. No CL Football income and no finish above 6th in his 4 years (with 5th highest net spend it's not like he over achieved).

Lerner has said for months how the club's spending habits would change - this cannot have been a surprise to O'Niell?

I hope it wasn't over transfer funds but if it was he's in dreamland.

I've just heard it's over Ashley Young's possible sale to Spurs in which case fair enough.

and his own reputation in the process.

If Villa sell Milner (highly likely) and Ashley Young (possible) for a combined fee of say £40m then MON would be entitled to expect at least £20 - £25m of that to reinvest in the team. If Lerner decides he's only getting £10-£15m then thats a resignation issue imo.

He said he'd quit if Young was sold without his say so,I'm guessing his threat hasn't worked out to well for him.

In this market that strategy would be in line with 90% of all clubs decisions in that scenario including Utds £80m made from Ronaldo. (Or us with Alonso or Arsenal for about the last 6 years with various!)

Fair enough on the resignation I guess but there aren't any clubs out there doing things differently except Citeh.
