I decided late in this afternoon to drive the 45 minutes to Duisberg casino, with the main objective being to recce the cash game tables. The cash games were not starting for a while, but there was a satellite event into the WPT (not THE WPT, but the Westspiel Poker Tour which is like German Diet GUKPT).

The entry was 30 Euros, with a 150 Euro ticket for the next round (which leads to 1000 Euro ME ticket). 44 runners, but the casino put in a bit of extra value - making it 11 seats available.

Over the last few weeks I feel on a few occassion's I've simply been too aggressive/fishy chasing draws in an attempt to either accumalate chips early - or neglecting the bubble, looking too far forward and preferring to gain chips to get me to the FT. This hand is a typical example of some recent plays and I'd simply like some reassurance - or to be shown the error of my ways!!!!!

I know this is a satellite and that pure survival should be at the back of my mind.  Furthermore - and this is a strange one - the table is 11 handed. Yes, 11 handed. Starting chip stacks are 3000.

The hand takes place on the second level. In fact we have had just one orbit. Typical to German play, a few hands have had the flop seen by 3, 4 or 5 players. Adolf has won 2 sizeable pots and lost a couple. However, he has a couple of blatant tells!!! I have not played a single hand.

Blinds 40/80
UTG Folds
Adolf calls
2 more get out of the way.
Eva Braun calls.
2 more fold.
Herr Flick calls
I look down at

I decide I'd like to see the flop, but would prefer not to have half of Germany in there with me (I've had my fingers burnt with that 2 many times). The table is not exuding confidence and I figure I can raise to steal there - or see a flop with one other player....and make a decision there and then - but this hand has potential...

I decide to play hard and fast...so raise to 800.

The button folds
Small Blind folds
Goebbels in the BB calls.
Adolf calls.
Everyone else folds.

Pot is 2600.

Flop comes

Goebbels checks
Adolf hammers in 1500

I cannot see Goebbels for the dealer, so got not physical information from him on his check. However I am know Adolf has zip, but if on the off chance I'm wrong I know its not much. I'm certain any King, Queen or Diamond takes it for me. At 0.85 I'm happy enough to go in behind. So I get all my chips in for 2140.

Pot is 6240 and Goebbels calls.

I'm surprised Adolf folds rather than chucking in the extra 640, but then again it confirms he was weak.

Pot 8380, so quite tasty at such an early stage...

Goebbels shows

Turn and river come    and I'm out out and heading home faster than a Lancaster Bomber thats just dropped its load on the city!!!!

I feel perhaps the biggest mistake could be that I even considered playing  here. Nextly I kick myself for not taking a good look at Goebbels, but as I say he was completely obscured. Is this just too aggressive? Is it acceptable in other circumstances - but not in a satellite?Huh?

Please assassinate and advise!!!

I never really understand why people think this is a problem (loads of pre-flop action) one of the things I love about live pokers is that because a. your a lot deeper generally and b. pre-flop play is much looser that post flop situations are so complex tht it really pushes you.

Imo its pretty simple, people play far to wide pre flop then play 100% for value, limp along make sick hands win loads of money - keep an eye out for awesome squeeze spots pre
Id much prefer to play i a game like this.

In this hand once you've made it 800 pre you 100% should not fold on the flop, paying  was fine its a fantastic hand, i dont mind the 10x that much but this shallow seems a bit pointless.
Just hit a blue card next time Smiley

So we raise to 10x build such a big pot that we have less than a PSB back why would we ever need to get readz off our oppos when we flop 2 overs and a fd?

I can see that I effectively set myself up for the fall by making such a big raise and my options are now pretty limited. But once in this situation do u feel the shove over the top of Adolf is correct with all these outs???

The reason I ask is that I'm having a bit of a crisis in confidence. I keep getting my chips in when, whilst not necessarily ahead, I have loads of outs. Then not hitting. Variance I know, but in these sort of spots are you looking to risk your tourney life in an attempt to get that big stack??

I GUARENTEE flushy will say yes to this Wink

Just make it 340-380 pre, I dont care if everyone calls.

You didnt give any info. on type of player Goebbels is except for saying you cannot see him cus the dealer is in the way. Is he loose-passive, is he tight, is he superlaggy, calling a lot? 3betting a lot? etc

Based on that, it'd depend what you can do if you raised to like 360 pre and he donks into you.

Given you raised to 800 pre, you have to go allin at this point regardless of villain type or tells.
