I do play tournaments on line , mainly at Stars (they have a $100,000 guaranteed for $50 buy in @ 8pm eveynight) + Satelites to live events at DTD etc.
There are many benefits to online play such as time management (tournaments can be 3/4 times quicker than live) ,playing in the comfort of your home (good when I have my children stay over & are in bed) no travel expenses or accommodation and nobody trying to tap you up for £ when you bink one
(you know the score ) and of course on Sunday nights the chance to win big as there are a lot of Big Prize /Big field comps out there. That said I much prefer live as I like to see the white of their eyes whilst playing.
In 2005 I was married and played poker full time ..out all night ,coming in when the kids were getting up for school then playing on line with no sleep ,not eating properly,no exercise etc. "Poker Poker Poker " I was a winning player but it put enormous strain on an already rocky relationship . It was at the time I made a choice to stop playing poker, got a regular 9 - 5 so I could spend more time with the kids etc. I spent a lot of time over the years thinking about life and realised poker isnt everything but can play a part as long there is equilibrium. In 2009 I started playing again(after the kids were a lot older & I divorced) I found with my mind in a lot better place the results were better too.I now share my time between my children ,girlfriend , poker ,gym, sociial interaction, holidays etc and find with good planning this suits me better than poker 24/7( after all we only have one life ! )
I know this is a long winded answer but some parts may help you

@ what point did you sign up here Paul ?
nov 2008
It was after i met tikay in person.
Not too sure If blonde had a huge turning point in my poker maybe tweeked my poker alot.
I well remember that. Actually, let me be honest - I don't recall it, sorry!
I'm acutely puzzled by you Paul, to be honest. Several people have referred to the difference between the "random Posting Paul", & the incredibly interesting & "deep" Paul on this Diary. Not sure I understand you yet, but I'll continue to try.
Loving the Diary though, it's helping me get a handle on an enigma. Hope you keep the Diary going.
I really did not have a clue where you were coming from when you suddenly went all funny on me in the Tighty Update thread, but my view was very clear - "time & place" (not), it was a warm "community" Thread, so I swerved getting involved, but happy so to do on here if you so wish.
I "dislike" very few people in truth, but that does not mean I like everyone, far from it, there's a lot of neutral land between the two extremes, & sitting in that middle area is just fine. I simply do not "get" your (usual, non-Diary) Posting style, & that's the truth, but so what? Many folks don't "get" MANTIS", whereas I happen to think he is one of the top 10 - no, make that top 5 - Posters on blonde. Diversity of opinion is all good.
I really wish you success & a huge folowing with your Diary, & all the very best in 2012, both on & off the poker tables.

Ha, I need to find out how to get an extension on my sig allocation, 300 characters is a bit tight imo. I said before on your diary that the forum is like a pub where sometimes you stop in for a drink and other times just look through the window as you go past. Without random characters dropping in or sounding off it wouldn't be a colourful interesting pub. It would be the British Legion. I enjoy the different characters who just drop in, say something random, then bugger off. It's like sitting there with a pint and seeing a commotion at the bar involving a vicar and a swinging handbag before everything returns to normal. If Paul Ho argues with the barman one night that's just a normal happening in any regular pub. In fact next time I come to the pub I want words with the barman myself, top 5 is advent calendar standard ffs.

yeah did business stuidies in leeds *cough* Met
tbh I didnt enjoy uni life
I felt really isolated and my dad passed away whilst i was studying.
I didnt really take advantage of the opportunities that was available to me. But hey ho its no point dwelling on the past.
Just need to reflect on your past actions and try and move on and become a better person.

shot taking/ moving up in poker
I am currently stuck at the moment to what to do with poker at the moment.
currently i am playing anything going on dtd the highest stts and mtts that run (E20r, E50 FO and E100 stt)
My roll is pretty comfortable at the moment to handle the swings. (hopefully)
But i just dont know what to do. Do i just continue to grind the games on dtd or should i just play on a different site also.
maybe get staking to play on other sites and maybe play higher on euro sites.
I always find this with my game I just get too comfortable playing the same games day in and day out. I dont push my self to improve or change which is not a good thing.
anyway my plans for the up and coming months are to play all the gukpt sides (maybe try get staked for the ME) and the Genting in star in feb + dtd obv.
need to put more volume online also and spend less on stuff for my girlfriends house and stop playing roulette!

Start mixing in MTT's from another site whilst playing your current ones.
If you move to Stars though I would prob drop down a level or 2 - eg $3/5/8r, 30fo and 30stt as the skill levels on there are higher plus field variance.
As I said to Ant in his diary, for people coming off small networks playing MTT on Stars I would highly recommend starting with the CAP tournaments as they are 500/1000 runners max and they have a good varied selection.
