They go to the service provider with a court order listing the ip addresses of downloaders of copyright material (not just porn) and they are given the details of the downloader.

That's the legitimate way, but apparantly this law firm uses various methods; according to one article this leak is one of the few cases where every single element of data protection may have been broken somewhere along the line.

They send out threatening letters to random people who they believe downloaded illegal movies etc and demand £500, the problem is most are shit scared and pay. I would personally say GTF and prove it! Easy to spoof or mask IP's and virtually impossible to prove you did wrong.

Yeah - don't think any of these have actually gone to court. If you ignore the letter, nothing happens.

Imagine the embarrassment if you had Sky and your name wasn't on the list.

You can download them from PirateBay, I saw some in email format (.eml), dunno if that can carry a virus risk in itself though. Presume they target peops who download then offer for upload. What's the damage done to a copyright holder for downloading a copy? £10? Really nice to see them getting investigated by the Solicitors' regulator, it's an abuse of the name really. They make InjuryLawyers4U look like Rumpole.

LOL this is so BS. I don't need a letter, I'll admit it, I've surfed for porn on the internet, so fking what? The professional actors who give their time and talent to these movies have to get paid somehow, clear high heels don't pay for themselves you know. By freely exchanging these bodies of work on the internet with no respect for those who have slaved away trying to commercialize their art, they are being deprived of full financial reimbursement and you are discouraging other actors from seeking a career in adult entertainment. lol
