gukpt 1k event.. A "top 5 in the uk" young pro opens 2.2x for like the gazillionth time in a row and you 3bet from the sb with around 40 bigs to 7x, he shoves and you go into the tank. You ask if he will show if you do and he sais i'll show one if you do.

Youre image is tight and you have yet to 3bet, although youve taken time a very times before reluctantly folding to the player in questions raise. I assume he see's you as a bad online player who hasnt cashed in any big live tournies etc.

How does your range change with his answer, or does it not at all?

fwiw you're highly unlikely to get an answer to this question from a circuit reg on a public forum imo

if people ask me I always say i'll show cos i dont mind showing lol - I just bank it and try level them next time Wink

I really dont know, he's obviously trying to make you either fold or call, but he's clearly good so he'll be hiding which way he wants you to go in order to not make it obvious lol he's trying to level you so I'd probs ignore it and not get leveled, I've just leveled myself a bit trying to type this... :s

Surely your read can only change if u have previous knowledge of a player talking previously when in a hand?

I'd also suggest not asking this sort of player the question in the first place if you think he's better at the speech play than you are.

I really couldnt imagine any good player saying theyd show one card unless they were in a hand with someone they thought was pretty good and were trying to level.

right, so i didnt play this hand. I was at gukpt reporting this weekend and watched it from the rail. I wont mention the original raiser but hes very respected on here but doesnt post, at least not reguarly.

The guy who 3bet was local i think,, but looked quite young and could of been capable, when he started talking after being 4bet shoved on it was obvious that he wasnt.

However i just really cant imagine a good player would ever have close to the top of their range here as i dont think it everrrr induces a call and probably 5-20% (i have no idea) of the time it will induce a fold as players like to confirm they were correct but hate folding.

The "pro" (cringe) is reknowned for not saying anything in the middle of hands and always sits there motionless riffling his chips and remaining quiet.

The 3better folded jacks face up (giving 2-1 on cards shown siiiick ha) and the 4better showed a ten.

If he's good he'll have noticed this.

If you're the type who only 3 bets the top of your range you wouldn't have had any thinking to do previously so were obviously considering a move.

This could quite easily be that move so he sticks one in your eye.

My calling range doesn't change with his answer. If I've found a monster I'm calling, if I've 3 bet light I'm folding.

Speculative hands I'd have just flatted anyway so they don't come in to it.

Don't know what I would've done with JJ tbh. Given what you've said probably bet to induce. If I've done that he wouldn't have time to tell me whether he was gonna show because I'd have beat him in to the middle.

Often though, If someone asks you this question, you dont really know how they'll take w/e answer you give...
the options are
1) say nothing
2) say yes
3) say no
4) say something, that is niether yes or no

Even saying nothing will influence them, and you dont know how, so just saying something different like "i'll show you one" is pretty cool I think, also its less douchey than saying nothing at all cos that's a bit rude. I don't actually think whether they want a call or fold has much to do with it, just anything that confuses and distracts people, or skews their decision making.
