A few poker supervisors have told me you can say what you like if you have live cards so i gave an example "can i say "'Ive got aces "when i have rags" , the replies were yes.

Somewhere else i was told i cannot tell the truth about my cards , so i cannot say I've got aces when i really do have them .

The more casinos i visit the more confused i get about the rules.

Anybody know the definitive answer ?

Depends on the venue.  Some places will kill your hand if you state your holding, at others it's still live.  Never understood the reasoning behind the idea that you can lie about your hand, but you can't actually disclose what you're holding.

abs ridic rule which I get around by naming every hand except the one I have while my opponents cross them off on small printed charts. it does mean we only get in about 3 hands an hour though

somethimes I run a bluff by actually naming my holding but then passing so that the td doesn't know what I've done

Nothing wrong with it imo. It's not the same as exposing as your opponent is never sure if you're telling the truth or not. You do need to be careful if talking to a friend tho - others might view it as collusion and it may get looked into.

Depends on the venue. I'm guessing if it's a Grosvenor who don't know the rules then they'll kill your hand.

Had a fun hand last night where I flopped 2pair with 78. Turn was an A and I bet enough to put the guy all in on the river. He was pondering it and I said he had to call cos he'd obv hit that A on the turn. But he shouldn't call because I had 2pair. Told him I had 78 and pointed at the 78 on the board. He eventually called and I turned over my 78 and his weak A was no good (Not saying this was particularly good speech play, I was drunk and having a bit of a laugh )

Could you say you had 2 red aces when you had 2 black ones thus not breaking the rules but giving the impression you don't have aces as you're not allowed to say what hand you have?

I would never say I have an actual hand as that is just retarded imo. I used to alwayyyyyyyyys talk when I was in hands, like always chatting shit, but now just riffle and stare down at a certain spot. Durrrrrrr style.

The Grosvenors apply the "anything goes" when i comes to speech , and I've never had or seen a problem in one of them.

I was at a conference and was staying out of town so decided to play at a Stanley Casino , i said i had kings in order to get someone to fold but he called anyway and i had to show my lower pair. The locals went berserk , even the dealer said i was out of order.

I hate playing in new casinos where 90% of the players play everynight at the same venue. It was either the local hillbillies were out to get the stranger in town or a weird bylaw.

I had a situation recently at DTD playing £1/£2 cash NLH... I had been playing against a particular opponent for about 3 hours. We had talked quite a bit and was having a laugh and a joke, generally getting on well, though we had never met before... I was winning about £120 but this guy was winning about £1000.

I then 3-bet this opponent for the fourth time in relatively quick succession. He was opening a lot of pots and I had position against him most of the time. On the last occasion I held QQ after he raised from the button. He opened to £12 and I made it £38 from the SB. (I was half expecting a 4 bet).

As anticipated, he made it £100. He then told me he had 'the best hand possible' and he proceeded to swear on his son's life that he had the goods (AA), he even named his son, told me he liked me and was happy to just win the money I had put in there. This definitely unsettled me, as I am a Dad of two myself and I would never consider saying such a thing.

Because we were playing deep, I just called and then checked the 10 high flop. He bet £150 on the flop, but he was very uncomfortable in doing so. I was then confident enough to ship it in. He held AK, called my all in and missed the turn and river. I scooped a nice pot but what a mug I would have looked to all those at the table if after all had been said he showed me AA!

What he said about his son crossed the boundary for me personally, and took the shine off a good night at the felt.
