Dusk Till Dawn
«
on:
December 22, 2010, 03:56:10 PM »
Looking at going to DTD Nottingham in the next few weeks but would be getting a lift from my girlfriend - we live about an hour away, now this would be my first time in a live tourney and don't really want her to just get home and then me ringing up to say I've bust out already.
Just wondering if I'm in the tourneys is there much for her to do around the club, is there a lounge area etc?
Cheers in advance!

MrsB thoroughly enjoyed herself...up to a point when we went down.
Just make sure Boshi doesn't end up talking to your Mrs, you won't hear the end off it "He's lovely, charming etc."

Yeah mate there's a lounge area, bar and sofas as well as computers - she's able to use the internet access on any for as long as she wants.
There's also a cinema across the road.

Cheers, hopefully I'll be able to persuade her to come and hang around then!
Any tips for a first-timer playing live, don't want to turn up and make a complete tit of myself

Maybe not an hour but a good 40 minutes, with all the road developments what are going on so thought best to overestimate rather than under
.
Cheers for all the tips. Hopefully I won't do anything too stupid

Yeah, don't worry about doing anything stupid. Everyone has to learn, and there are some who've been playing for years who still do stupid things and never learn.
Good luck in the comp

Give a shout on here closer to time. Might arrange to meet a few more blondes while you're there.

Great advice, Probably best not to mention its your first time though(imo). Just sit and enjoy the game
if you are courteous towards the other players you will have no problem.

The most common that always marks out a newbie is getting caught out by the single oversized chip rule. If you intend to raise, either put in at least 2 chips (525, 1025, etc), and/or announce, clearly, what you're raising to. If you just throw in a 1000 without saying anything when the blinds are 25/50, it's a call, and there'll be a big newbie arrow pointing at your head
. If you have no change and want to raise it to 200, say that BEFORE you throw the 1000 in.
But it's great. I still remember my first live tourney (only 3 years ago, at DTD), and it's an exhilarating experience.

This. I'm there at least once a week, and there are many here who are more frequent than that. Before I moved house I did this journey from near Collingham, and it was only 40 mins from there (Newark + about 8 mins). Easy easy journey, A46, A52, ring road. My record getting home late night was 28 mins. But remember, speed kills.
Good luck!
