Before I went to Vegas, one of the things I wanted to experience was the seemingly incredible railing the final table of a WSOP event.
Word had reached me, through Claypole I think, that Middy was heading for the final of the $2500 event at the Rio, so I jumped in a cab from Caesers, and headed straight there. Managed to find the Amazon room, and headed for the FT. Watched it for a few mins, then realised it was the wrong one, as someone called Tom had just scooped a pot with a flush and nut low
Found the right table, and was greeted by Alex, who first words were, Hi Vin, coming clubbing tonight? The rest of the rail consisted of Pab and Leknave, who instantly handed me a beer and said oioi or something like that.
Soon, the rail had grown, people like Moorman, flushy etc, were in the 5k comp, that was just about to finish for the night, and others like Trigg, JP and lildave had returned from a night out somewhere to join in on the fun. Soon the group had grown to about 30, and the noise was getting louder and louder. The atmosphere was building nicely, and when Jason Mercier arrived, to cheer on his horse, it got even better.
A few times, it maybe got a bit too rowdy for the organisers, and they came over for a quiet word, then one of the Rio suits turned up looking concerned, he came over and had a few words, at the this point, one of the crowd had been objected for being a bit too exciteable, and it looked like more were gonna follow. Mercier & his mates started chanting 'Let them stay, let them stay, let them stay
by the time Dennis the suit had turned his back, the rail were chanting his name, and asking for a wave. He duly obliged, much to the rail's approval.
The best moment of the rail, was, following a raise from Berkey?, and a call from the sb, middy shoved A9, Berkey isolated AQ and the sb folded.
The flop was something like J 9 5. There seemed to be this great long pause, which seemed like 10 minutes, then, almost simultaneously, everyone realised Middy had binked a 9. Brick on the turn and river, and the crowd went mad, beer & people went flying all over the place. All great natured, even the Americans were starting to join in on the banter now.
The night finished about 3am I think, and we dispersed quietly along the room, until we saw Claypole, who was pacing up and down, like an expectant father at the side of brummieboy, who was just playing his last hand of the night.
Got in a cab back to the Palazzo, secretly hoping that the golf couldn't get booked, so I could go to sleep, and get up in time to go back and rail Middy. As it turned out, I'm glad it was booked...

Got back to the room to find it was empty. Donks and Gav had been up all night degening on Pai Gow. They got back about 4.30. They only came back to get changed as we were meeting chompy in reception at 5am.
Chompy had given us all this guff about having to dress smart, and even offered to buy me a pair of golf trousers at the course, as I was wearing shorts. I wasn't having it, and we set off. Chompy looked splendid in his golf top, palazzo baseball cap, and Oxfam trousers, that looked like they had been packed in a carrier bag, and thrown on that morning.
We got to the course and booked in, got the buggies etc, and chompy & Gavin started buying all this [ ] useful equipment. My favourite was a green fixer, for repairing dents in the green when a ball lands from a great height and makes a dent. Sure was a bargain at $15. His face was superb when the guy told him the price
Quick whack around the driving range, and we were ready to go.
Chompy stepped up to the tee at the first, and promptly showed us how valuable his golf lessons had been, by hitting a piledriver all of 30 feet.
I was terrible at golf, I knew I would be, I haven't played since the first time I played 18 years ago, but the 3 hours or so were great. Chompy is very competitive with himself, while we were watching the videos & laughing at them, he was watching them and assessing his swing lol.
Here is a video of my mad driving skillz, sadly, not from the course. Some strange sound effects from donks, you might want to turn it down a bit.

Afterwards, we had a drink in the bar, and I offered the barmaid $5 to squirt chompy with water from the drinks pump, she was standing 10 feet away, but managed to get him, she then forgot to collect the $5, so chompy got a free squirting ( insert your own jokes here)
Headed back to the hotel, with the plan to get changed, and jump in a cab to the Rio for the re-start of Middy's final.
Sure went to plan, and I ended up crashing out on the bed, with the alarm set for 1.30. Got up at 7pm ffs.

Unfortunately, by the time i woke up, Middy had been knocked out in 3rd. But i had received some texts, telling me brummieboy was now in a final!
I went for breakfast/dinner with donks & Gav, at the Outback. Left them two to carry on their Pai Gow session, and I jumped in a cab to the Rio. As I got out the cab, I got a text from Claypole, saying Paul had been knocked out in 5th. Missed two rails in one day. FML.
Couldn't find anyone in the Amazon room, so headed out to the corridor, and I spotted titaniumbean talking to whollyflush & James outside the cashier. Claypole came out, and said Paul was just waiting for his money, then we were going out for a quiet drink. Sounded good to me.
Went in to see Paul &
nip him
congratulate him. Even got to hold his ticket for $120k. It felt good, musta felt even better for him!
Once Paul had finished, we jumped in a cab back to their apartment, so the could get showered and changed etc, then we were heading over to the Wynn, to meet the others. Just for a quiet drink, like Claypole said...

Arrived at the Wynn, or was it encore? I don't know, was def one of them, and Claypole insisted on buying me and brummie a cocktail. Not sure what it was, but it was nice. Shortly after, Pab, Jones & Boz arrived, and we finished our drinks, and headed for somewhere called surrender. Apparently, it was quite a good place. Hmm, I don't like clubs as a rule, but fk it, I'll give it a go.
Got into the queue, gave the name of who the table was booked in etc, and waited to be let in. As we were standing there, one of the doorman came along, asking for ID. Hmm, sure had any, luckily he let it go, but another doorman spotted I didn't have shoes on, and wasn't allowed in without them. FFS. He gave me directions on where the nearest shop was, and sent me on my way. On the way there, I was thinking, gg $200, gg $300, gg $400, sigh. Just as I got to the shop, I got a call from Claypole, telling me to come back, DON'T BUY SHOES!! Apparently, the doorman didn't realise we were part of the Middy party, and therefore trainers were fine lol. Phew. No ID & no shoes, but it's ok, you can come in Sir. MBN.
Skipped past the long queue of people waiting to get in, and weaved our way past the pools, to the back of the club (which is open air, if you didn't know) and found the private area that has been reserved. Lots of familiar faces were already there, enoying a drink, and in very good spirits.
Two beautiful waitresses were there, in shiny silver dresses, pouring out Grey Goose vodka, and handing them out. They couldn't pour them out quick enough, and for some reason, I couldn't drink them quick enough.

Much merriment was being had, and titaniumbean seemed to be amazed by what he was witnessing, I remember him repeatedly saying, this is just like a night out in Waltham Abbey, but nothing like it it!
He wasn't alone in his amazement, to be honest, and I was deeply impressed.
Believe it or not, I'm quite an outgoing person, and love socialising, and meeting people. I just don't do it enough. I also like meeting new people, and there were a few people there, that I hadn't met before, so I made a point of introducing myself. By now, I'd a bit of a drink inside me, so I obviously thought I was king of the comedians. First up, lildave was chatting to Jake, so I strolled up and said, Is this guy a mate of yours Dave? And introduced myself. As we shook hands, I asked him if he played poker, he nodded politely but lildave insta blew my cover, so I couldn't continue with my plan, no prob though, another chance was just around the corner.
