yes, the money would have been life changing for me, but in the grand scheme of things, It really doesn't matter innit.
for some reason that reminded me of dick lynch's words of wisdom the first time i saw him after fking up that dtd deepstack a couple of years ago. something along the lines of "i doubt you'll ever be in a position to win that kind of money again"

DTD £500 Deepstack.
With a fked up body clock, I fell asleep at 11pm on Friday night after stuffing myself with a Chicken Biriani Madras, then woke up at 2am Sat Morning. Not really great preperation for the day ahead, but the excitement and adrenalin would be enough to see me through to 11.30pm, if I made it that far.
I phoned the sicilian at 5.15am to inform him that he has two hours til he needs to wake up, as I was picking him up at 8. He didn't seem too impressed by my phone call for some reason. Touchy.
He didn't want to get up early for a dirty fry up, so I took the burd instead at 7. Don't know how keen she was, but she came along anyway.
Gavin had stayed at Dean's on friday night (separate beds allegedly) as he lives in Hemel and we weren't going up the M1 due to road closures, so that made it easier.
A quick stop for their breakfast at the services and before we knew it, we were in Nottingham. The journey seemed to fly by, and was strangely enjoyable. If I knew how quick it was gonna be, We woulda stopped of in St Neots for a quick cuppa with the chompy. He woulda been really pleased to see us.
Had arranged with Eso Kral & Celticalike to meet at Nando's at 1pm, I phoned Eso three times, but he was snoring after a late night on the tiles, and ended up missing out. The four of us headed to Nando's for the first, but not the last trip of the weekend.
Gav was bullied into buying everyone's lunch, I find it's a lot quicker than CCR, and I have less chance of losing that way.
After lunch we headed over to DTD so I could buy myself in. Gavin & Dean had done their's, but had somehow forgot to buy me in, which in a way was good, as Dean had bought them in for the wrong day. WP. It wasn't the last thing he organised wrongly that weekend either.

Only recognised 3 or 4 players on my starting table, Tim Chung (Paul Ho's g/f?) John Black, new blonde member, a Northampton reg, and frequent Luton player (we have history) and Chinese Frankie.
In truth, I wasn't really playing well, so I decided that I wasn't gonna be getting out of line early, I had Tim & and another young guy, Ben Raven I think, to my right, and they seemed to be quite happy 3 betting each other, and John to my left, who likes to 3 bet my raises, or flat me in position. My first notable hand came when I flatted a 3 bet from John with A7 green oop. See what I mean? We checked the Q 7 3 flop, I bet the 5 on the turn, and the A on the river. He called with AK apparently, tho he didn't show. Also capable of calling me with a 5 there too, so I won't read too much into what he said.
Then I called a min open from Tim in the cut off with J9dd. I flopped the 2nd nuts, got checked called on the flop and turn, and somehow managed to check back the river. I don't really know why, was one of those strange moments. It made me look like a bit of a dick. And prolly rightly so. It did come back door spades tho.

My next hand of note came against Chinese Frankie. He had started to get active after a quiet start, and it felt that I had been picking on his BB, I genuinely wasn't, but he wanted to start defending v me, so I returned the compliment with 43ss. I lead the Q83 flop, he called, the turn was
, so I led again, he called, the river paired the 8, so I check called his 1600 bet on the river after a long ( for me ) think.
He then called me his hero. I was made up. Then he told me all heroes die. Sigh. I'll ignore that bit, and work on the basis that I really am his hero.
He came over towards the end of day told, and confirmed I am still his hero. That's good enough for me.
The rest of the day I spent yo-yo ing between 40-60k, but I was determined not get frustrated. The reason for yo-yoing was simply not playing well enough, and playing the wrong hands, I was trying too hard to make things happen, as they certainly weren't happening themselves.
I went into the last level with 26k, just couldn't find a spot to get it in, so sat and waited. Got a table break just as the last level started, and found myself getting it in with AJhh, the hand was bizarre really, utg made it 4200, ep makes it 11k, I thought about folding, but thought fk it, this is nuts really and now had 10 bigs, so i shove, its flatted by the guy to my right, for 30% of his stack. UTG dwell folds, and the ep raiser flats. Flop comes Jxxddd, EP jams, MP folds. To be honest, I think I'm gone, until he flips over KJcc. Result! Back up to 70k, I then donk 25 of them off in the very next hand, and I'm really annoyed with myself. Then I raise A7hh, get 4 callers, flop 7xxdd checked to me and I jam, they all pass. Phew, Then Glenn 'Bigfella' Laming raises utg, I jam JJ, he folds. Back up to 70k, damage repaired, and the table breaks 20 mins before the end of the night. Moved on to table Bedi/Redi for a short time, played a couple of hands, winning both pots, and ended the night on 84500. Was pleased with that, given the last level donking and 2 hours of nothing before that.

The sicilian had flounced out by now, and got the train home, he had some lovely winning football/NFL bets to put on. Well done him.
So me and Pizzled headed to the room for 3 people he had booked the week before. Got to reception and no one was there, we waited five minutes for the receptionist to turn up, turns out he was giving Alan McBride a tour of the hotel ffs. Anyway, McBink slinked back to DTD to play some cash, and me and Gav headed to our luxury 3 person suite. What a cock the sicilian is. He booked a DOUBLE room. Obv thought it was just gonna be him and Pizzled, and was expecting a re-run of their friday night shenaningans. Last time I let him organise anything that's for sure. He did kindly pay for it tbf, and even gave us his credit card and pin number. How we didn't abuse I don't know.
I had a great night's sleep on the floor, and woke up feeling good at 10.30. We had breakfast, which was OK, though we had to wait 20 mins for a drink, the waitress kept coming over and saying, I'll just get your drinks, then served someone else. Sigh. We couldn't even charge the brekkie to the room, as it's provided by the pub next door, so Pizzled lost the imaginary flip, as I had left all my money in the room.
Shower and change, and headed off to DTD, getting lost twice, as we thought it would be better to ignore the Sat Nav, as it was taking us the way we didn't think was right! In the end, it turned out the Sat Nav was right, and we were wrong. Strange that.

Was drawn in the seat, next to my day 1 starting seat, which I thought was weird, but obviously it isn't really. And again, didn't really recognise anyone. Made a raise fold with A9, and other than that, didn't play a hand. Was glad when the table broke after 20 mins or so.
Got moved to Stato1 & Skolsuper's table, also Jack Allen (new blonde?) was on there, and he was involved in my first big hand of the day. I made it 6200 with AKcc, which was flatted by anon. Jack then shoves 65k, I re shove, anon folds. Pleased to see i'm up against AJdd. Pleased to see the K on the flop, but there is a Q too, the river is ofc the 10, and Jack sits back down. It leaves me with just under 10 bigs, and in the BB. Next hand, UTG shoves for 6, anon makes it 12, and I decide KQ is good enough to get the rest in. I get there v Anon's QQ and the shorties A3. Back up 70k
I then 3bet James from the BB and he does a fold. I sigh. And flash him KK. My image is good. Later on I 3bet him again with A3ss, he decides to call. Sigh. He checks the Q 7 4 1 spade flop, so I jam and close my eyes. He folds v quickly. Phew. I flash him the
. Now I just need to make the nuts, and jam...
A bit of time passed, and nothing was happening. The blinds and ante's were getting big, so I decided that I was gonna get creative with my 130k stack, there were still 40 to go to the bubble, and I didn't want to be hanging on for a min cash.
By now, James had raised my BB 3 orbits in a row. Which is fine, he was doing it to others too, on the fourth occasion I decided to defend his min raise with 35ss, as you do, oop. I checked the 3 K 6 flop, but he checked it back. Sigh, I was gonna shove on him if he c-bet. Then it comes a 4, and I have now got a pair and straight draw. After a bit of a think, I decided to check, he bet quite small, I was thinking now, I didn't really want to get it in here, maybe I should just call and see what comes on the river? OK, let's go for that. The river comes the 2, so I decide to shove for 86k more. James agonises for ages, then calls. He looks pained to see I have a 5. I'm not sure what he had, I have sent him a message today regarding the hand, which I'm sure he will reply to when he comes online.
One good thing to come from the hand, is that I got a new nickname. Vinny '5 High' Calenti. I like that a lot.

Don't be fumming, I'm not. If I couldn't win it, then the Newbie was prob the next best thing. Will write a bit about him later.

Then I just grinded my way up to 350k, Mitch was to my direct left, with a big
belly
stack, and I wasn't really in a position to be raise folding too many times. Mitch then gets damaged in a big pot blind v blind, so when I see an Ace, I raise, Mitch shoves for not much more, and I somehow hold v his K9.
Then Lee Blackburn comes to the table, He has 1.2 million maybe? And he has decided that he is gonna give some to me. Which is nice of him. He done a few raise folds, so when he raises again, I decide to flat the button with AJhh. It comes a lovely AA8, we both check, the turn is a 7, and he check calls. The river is another 7, and he decides to lead for 100k. I think, sigh, chop it up, but still manage a little pause before moving all in. He seems a little shocked, but then calls with 87. Ouch. Apparently I disguised the fact that I had an Ace v well. That put me up to 850k, and now I could start to open up a bit more. The bubble had just burst, and the short stacks were going for it. I was raising most unopened pots, and not being challenged too often.
I then 3 bet Lee with KK, he gives a speech about how much I like to play etc, and calls on the button. I lead for 200k on the 8 4 2 flop. He goes through a whole load of speech and different hands I could have. He actually mentioned KK four or five times, then he jammed for 700k! I called and he turned over J 10. Sick sweat for the gutter on the river after he turned a Q, but it bricked and I was up to 1.5 million.

The hand that got me to 2.1 million, I was pleased with. I think I played it more or less perfectly, which for me, isn't always the case. I read him perfectly too, and played it in a way, to get all his chips. The fact that he thought he had the nuts helped too, but even without the turn card pairing, I probably get the same result if any low card comes. It's 20k40k/4k and I make it 85000 with 44. The big blind - Tight Gary, a reg at Luton, calls. The flop comes Q 9 4 rainbow. He checks, and I c-bet 125k. I know he is expecting me to do this with ATC, so I'm hoping he is going to make a play if he has missed, as it's now the 5th or 6th time we have been heads up in a pot. He min raises. wiiiiiiiii I do a flat call. The turn pairs the Queen, and he fist pump checks. He clearly likes the Q. V me, this is the nuts 100% of the time. He knows that from our time together at Luton. I bet 185k and he shoves. Boom. He has JQ and I hold. Easy game.
After that, it pretty much went down hill. I lost AQv A8 for a 1.3 million pot, then had to give up a hand v Greek Jack on the turn when he shipped two pair v my Q high f/d. This left me with around 1 million, with the blinds at 30k60k6k I shoved JJ from the button, and Pete called with AJ. At least the A was on the flop and not the river.
Enjoyed the tourney a lot, learned quite a lot about myself in that time, certainly made mistakes along the way, particulary later in the comp, but I'll be doing my best to grind the cash games between now and the next one, to make sure I have a chance of going.

Andrew Wan.
I see tighty bottled out of using the caption: Wan - King of the deepstack. I thought it was great.
He came to the table around the 5k/10k level. He was full of enthusiam. He was very keen to let everyone know how much he was enjoying himself, how he had knocked Luke Schwartz out ( or won a pot off him) and that he normally plays £15 freezeouts only. I thought at first he was full of it, but slowly started to realise, he was being genuine, and really was just enjoying himself.
He played the weirdest hand ever when he decided to limp for 10k in the cut off. Most of the table were shocked, as this had been the first limp any of us had seen all day. Even Pete Linton found a fold in the SB...
The BB checks and the flop comes Q 7 9 cc. The BB checks and Andrew jams, BB snaps with Q7. Andrew seems distraught that he is up against two pair. My feeling is KK or AA. He flips Q 4!!!!! He then goes on to back door a flush and the BB seems a bit shocked by what has happened. And rightly so. This causes much amusement to the table (the fact he has limped with Q4, not the BB getting knocked out) A little while later he turns to me and asks what I thought about the Q4 hand. You want an honest answer? Yes! It was terrible! Oh, I think I know what you mean he says. LOL, he was still having fun though. He was the start of my demise when he got there with the A8 v AQ, but really, I am pleased for him. It meant so much to him just to be there playing, god knows how he feels today after winning 52k. Doubt he has been to sleep yet. We done a lot of chatting abefore the AQ/A8 hand, afterwards he went v quiet for about a minute. He turned to me and said sorry, I don't know what to say to you, please don't stop talking to me now. I lolled, and shook his hand, he seemed quite happy again after that. Well done him.

Terrific TR Vinni, & LOVE the comments about Mr Wan.
It's so heartening to see guys like him, genuine good guys, get these fairytale wins.
Will PM you in a bit about the other stuff from last night.
Sorry we never had time to chat much on Sunday. I was in need of an early bath.
I thought the atmo @ DTD was absolutely magic, so many old muckers there.
