Went to the vic last night to play cash. They have moved the room around and the comps are now next to the cashier.

The comp last night was a £50 f/o Gtd at £2k space for 40 players only.

The juice on the comp was £2 which i thought was very cheap for the vic.

As the comp was running i noticed that the number of buyins and size of prizepool didnt match up.

In the end they got 20 alternates into the comp, which meant 60 runners and obv a £3k expected prizepool.

The prizepool showing on the screens was £2700, meaning they took £2 up front and then 10% of the prizepool.

Opinions?

Obviously dont agree with it and it's even worse that they don't let you know in advance.

I've never ever liked most of the Vic Cardroom staff (apart from the incred Dr Raab when he was working there) and what's worse, we now don't have anyone to really go to, to talk about these things as we do with places like DTD etc.

I noticed yesterday that the Grosvenor Newcastle are doing the same on their new schedule, thread in live poker

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=51255.0

Smaller reg fee, and take 10% from the prize pool

I do hope this is not a chain wide decision.

they haven't heard of most poker rules though tbh

so 15.5% juice. way too much but still a lot better than dtd's 40+8 jobby. not good that they're stealth taxing it though

as in most cases i think if they explained it we would not mind,

but its when its hidden that its anoying.

as far as i am aware  of it  for eg dtd charge a little more but you always know what you are paying and its worth the extra...in my opinion.

I don't think that £8 in total juice for a £40 rebuy tourney with a £25K guarantee is even slightly unreasonable.

The reg fee and 10% deduction is clearly stated in the vic tournament booklet, from what i can see.

+1 to Ralph.

& lol @ the vic's tournament booklet.

Whether it's in there or not, its rubbish and shows they don't give a toss about poker.

This is actually very bad news, the house interfering with the prize-pools is just not on.

The old eminence grise on here warned us a year or two back that we should do our utmost to protect the prize-pools from deductions and that all registration fees should be transparent and separate from them.

"The thin end of the wedge" was how he referred to %age deductions IIRC.
