A lot of it has to do with attitude, probably the majority of players will have a big score and then not play much, not grind for a while and not put in much effort at all. Middy being back on the grind the next day is a great example to everyone and it was rewarded with some more results

I did a 90 minute video watching the 1k from 7pm till the bubble burst. I actually thought it would be a lot more helpful than it was, didn't find it that useful actually.
Think having someone to bounce ideas off would be better, or commentating on my own play would be better. Think I might try it again tomorrow for my main event sweat (day 1b was tonight, there's 800ish total going back, I'm still 2nd in chips, 116k ftw!). I definitely think talking through every hand will help me to focus and get better reads on everyone and pay closer attention to gameflow.
After I did that I drove to Keiths to watch him play out his sweats. He was 1/14 in the 1k, and chipped up in the .fr sunday million, another huge comp and huge sweat, so I thought watching him play and talking through spots with him would be really helpful and it definitely was.
He plays so weird and different it's really interesting seeing how he makes it work and why he does stuff. It's very much next level with him, being ahead of the curve, doing things because no-one expects you to do it. Noticing things that the general population do, and doing the opposite. It makes life difficult for people when you don't adhere to "standard" protocol of how to play x hand with y big blinds in z position.
I was speaking to Steve O'Dwyer in Galway, who has the same ethos and approach he said very simply "there's lots of different ways to win at poker".
I think I'm going to adopt that approach tomorrow and in the future, maybe play a different style and try some new things, whilst commentating on my own play for future analysis and seeing how it goes. Can't hurt can it? Feels good being proactive and putting effort into improving.
So awesome that two well liked blondes chopped it heads up tonight. Huge score for both and the stakers. WP everyone.
Let's hope tomorrow is MY TIME.

Loved this, Alex.....

I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about that sort of thing.
Poker players are followers of fashion. We don't HAVE to make it 2.2x when we raise, for example.
As part of my job, I'm playing low limit NHL next door (2p-4p up to 10p-20p). I like to mix my raise sizes up, but those boys, even at that Level, rip me a new arse everytime I don't make it 2.2x. Why? I mean, they really give me grief about it."
WHY NOT 2.2x tikay?"
Then I saw Plinop's thread yesterday, here....
http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=62229.msg1842470#new
And he was curious because one of THE best Online players in the UK was making "odd" size raises, unlike
"good regs"
do.
It's a bit like "show or not show" when we run a bluff, or have the Aces. There CAN be times when it IS good to show, for a specific reason, just as there CAN be a good reason not to show. NEITHER is necessarily right or wrong.
I'm obviously a hundred Levels below you guys, but there is a fundamental here, a psychological thing if you like.
We can confuse the Villains by NOT doing what they think we should. It does not make us bad, not necessarily.
Less seriously now, I love to make "comedy bets", & I know you've seen me do it at the Tables. Bet £2 into a £40 pot, the look on their little faces is priceless. Sorry, I'm there to enjoy myself.
More seriously though, the notion that I am a bad player because I don't always make it 2.2x is fundamentally wrong imo. There are plenty of better reasons why I am bad. That is not one of them.
I do think we should not slavishly & repeatedly do what we think the Big Boys do. Swimming against the tide has its merits, not the least being the confusion it causes. Think for ourselves sometimes, eh?
OK, I've said it now. Tin hat on, shoot me now.

@Tikay - not to come across all Joey Barton, but I enjoyed your post (and the one by Alex that it related to) then saw this quote on another poker forum and it seemed apt: “The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.”

Boom!
He nailed it there, Nick.
It took me 15 paragraphs and 300 words, and he summed it up better in 25 words.
So true though, isn't it?
"If you do not conform, or follow the Alpha Males, you are not one of us." In truth, only the brave dare swim against the current tide of thinking.
I am fixated with this sort of stuff. The human mind.......

Yeah of course I like to think outside of the box too. But for those who are better than me I want to understand why he is doing what he is doing. I wasn't mocking him to

One of your trolls mentioned it, so did a bit of research and joined. Obv owe your troll a pint.
6 max obviously an old mans game tho. Will teach you how to play A8 off on a JT575 board one day.

Had 500k, got 300k now on the bubble. Avg 180, so still plenty. Table is very good.
