THIS

The regs being so likeable is probably the reason I play more days per year at DTD than I do at the Vic and I live in London.

Was I in the group of players who made you feel unwelcome? Or was it a comment about a random 1/2 game you played?

no, it wasn't you alex, and i've played on tables with you.
i just find it all a little sad that poker players feel they can belitttle their opponents who are after all their bread and butter.
betfair make a 60% premium charge for the winners on their site, calling it "marketing" to constantly drag the "fish" to their site.

just to go off at a tangent (again!) i'm a firm believer that the gambling game tames lions so to speak.the upswings are easy to deal with and we can all run good, the difference is how we cope with the downers. its that ability that sorts the men from the boys, and i hope you come out of your bad patch a better player.

I've played both (moreso the Vic) and i would say the Vic regs are more accomodating/banterful. People like Freddy Carle are brilliant for the games, lots of banter keep it very recreational whereas whenever ive played at dtd its always felt like "business" and people then to talk strategy alot. This isn't a slurr on any1 here or regs in particular just my thoughts.

I got stick on another thread for describing a man as elderly.

Describing a field as soft on my diary? Please...

I'm definitely not guilt of not making recreational players welcome at the table, nor is mitch, Andy or anyone else I know who plays for a living. It's obv a terrible idea not to be totally respectful and welcoming.

I think the 'elderly' thread may be the one where I took issue with you - but surely you realised my tongue was very much in my cheek over that.

Soft tourneys? Keep telling it how you see it, I think I'm an average recreational player and I watched some of the play in the GP Day 2 and thought 'I should do well here' you must see some of it and salivate

For absolute clarity - on the rare occasions when I've shared a table with you, Mitch or Stato it's been an ok experience at worst and fun at best. Maybe your use of the term 'regs' is more closely defined than mine - I used it to describe people who I seem to see whenever I visit DTD.

Irrespective of this being Alex's diary (which I respect & enjoy reading!) I find a general arrogance from players who clearly play for a living to those who are recreational/have full time jobs and cannot commit 60hrs a week to poker. If you are a tight ABC Poker player you are perceived as a "NIT" if you show any sort of aggression you are perceived as a "FISH".

not true.

Any specific examples of respected PRO players being unjustly arrogant towards a "recreational player"

I think you should give the fact that these players DO put 60hours a week into poker more respect, because the tone you used in this paragraph I found pretty demeaning.

To be fair their are many "Recreational" players who have a decent understanding of the game who should be given a greater degree of creditability.

agreed, but i disagree that many good recreational players aren't given the credibility, I don't and I don't know anyone else who describes players as Pro/Non Pro over saying whether they are good or bad.

Alex has posted within the "Hand Analaysis" section a great debate on his A-10 hand about a player Terry who I have played with a few times with who is great for the game. Irrespective of the "PROS" perception of this type of player you would be lost without his bankroll to allow you to make a living. Both Jakalley and Mitch make great respectful comments about his knowledge/understanding of the game and I do not thing this should be dismissed.

this makes no sense, whats is the "pros" perception? what was wrong with the perception? what;s with air quotes? Where in that debate did anyone who know's him say anything disrespectful?  So far your post has had far more disrespect in it imo.

Some people are good at poker, some are bad, some are fantastic some are terrible...same with everything - pottery, cycling, golf, writing etc, people should be treated like people and on their own personal merit, and anyone that doesn't do this just isn't a very nice person I don't think arrogance towards poker has much to do with it.

didn't mean to rant at you but your post tilted me.
