aware of the Karate Kid, never seen it and no interest in seeing it

We all know Alex's Cultural references are narrower than an Olympic Gymnastics beam, but I don't think Karate Kid is a "everyone will have seen it omg wtf" one, to me anyway

I agree with that. Thought the issue was never having heard of it?

For example, I've never seen any of the Star Wars films, apart from the first 15 minutes of The Empire Strikes Back. No interest in wasting 10 hours of my life on catching up, either. Have a basic idea of the plot from Family Guy and...everything written since

I've never seen any of the Indiana Jones franchise

Or The Matrix

Or Bladerunner

Everyone has their cultural blind spots.

Never listened to The Planets or The Four Seasons (unless there are famous bits that have appeared elsewhere?), been to any opera or ballet and have never watched an instructional online poker video.

As Tal said, it's not about things you haven't seen or listened to; I think people are amazed at the things Alex has never heard of and is unaware of their existence.

I've never listened to a Garth Brooks album, or sat through a performance of The Pirates of Penzance. But I know of them.

Ffs boshi, I said I've heard of the Karate Kid, just never seen it.

I said I hadn't heard of the actors you mentioned who played the roles.

My mistake also. Mea culpa. Sorry.

Carry on.

This whole thing is kinda tiresome.

OH MY GOD YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THIS SONG

OH MY GOD YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS FILM

OH MY GOD YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THIS TV SHOW

Firstly, it's pretty old news that I never watched TV as a child. So everybodies continued surprise when it comes out that I haven't seen x is a bit zzzz.

Secondly, all the comments like "omg what sort of childhood did you have" are also pretty zzz.

Everybody does roughly what they want to do in life don't they? TV was never a part of my life except for watching sport, so I was never exposed to all those things - I did other things instead. And thus don't feel like I missed out on anything because I did the things that made me happy instead. I appreciate that it's weird for everybody else, but I don't feel like I had a deprived childhood or anything lol, quite the opposite. I really don't feel any worse off.

As for now, TV is on the in the house a lot (mainly Indian Cricket though ) and I'm still pretty over it. There's almost nothing I watch regularly. In fact, there is nothing. I wouldn't miss the TV if it were gone.

Any good TV show I just buy the boxsets of and watch at my leisure. I go to the cinema a lot and enjoy that.

I could reel off loads of things that I do / have done that almost nobody else does / will have done. But I'm not going to as obviously they are sad things to do and nobody feels any worse off for having not done them either.
