I did the same thing about an hour earlier, had pocket 5's but a reasonable raise and a call ahead of me put me off, flop came down 5x5 ---- Weeeeeeeeeeeep

Should of called it really, oh well, we live and learn.......

hindsight is a wonderful thing.................. if we all had it though it would make poker a very boring game!!

If you would have called with your 5's though the flop would have come A-K-J and you'd have thought "well that was a waste of chips......."

Within reason, isn't it worth calling any reasonable raise with any pair because sets are gold and the implied odds if you hit can become huge?

In Jane's case the odd's were there, but it was marginal

Same thing happened to me in my first ever live tourney in Blackpool Boxing Day last year!

EDIT:  Forgot to add it was the very first hand of the night too!

In general i wont call the raise if it is more than 10% of my stack or the raiser has less than 10 times the original raise behind purely to try and flop the set as you are about 7/1 to flop the set and i like to build in some extra value for doing so. You also have to consider position and the aggression of the other players at the table because if it gets reraised you are just burning chips.
