I don't know the situations in the games for the goals already posted but surely Rooney's gets some respeck for the fact it's the winning goal in the derby in a season where losing could cost Utd the league to their closest rivals.

No it doesn't. We were not talking about the most important good goal ever scored (Or Beckham's qualifying goal would pwn Rivaldo's surely?) but the best overhead kick..purely technical.

I agree with the baron here, there was something special about that goal just because of the game.

Yes, it's a great goal and especially in this game but it's massively overhyped, as the British media tend to do, and definitely not the best goal of his career. (IMO)

if you wanted to be over critically..it took a deflection before it reached him...and Kompany then slips before it gets to him too..?!

Agree in the sense you're both talking about. But for me the great players do it on the great stages when the pressure is on. Which is why, although technically inferior to Van Basten say - Rivaldo's hat-trick is probably the greatest single performace I've seen on a football pitch.

Very similar to your man Van Basten, (and every bit as good imo) Ronaldo has retired in a career cut short by injury.

One of the best ever.

Certianly won't argue that one!

I like the way Monda is going with this.

Me for Tadcaster East Primary School vs Haxby in 97/98. I took the kick off with my strike partner Scotty "Too Hotty" Poulter, chipped it up to myself and just hoofed it as hard as I could towards the opposition goal and it bounced just before the little keeper and went well over his head and into the goal.

Some of my very young sources tell me that that goal is still talked about by people wearing the famous yellow and red to this day.
