:: It’s called the ONYX Cup.
:: It’s six (6) major events with buy-ins ranging from $100,000 to $300,000.
:: Grand Finale event will have a $250,000 buy-in with $1M added to the prize pool.
:: Top three finishers of each event get points, and whoever accumulates the most points by the end of the series is the ONYX Cup winner.
:: Events take place in U.S., Europe, and Asia.
:: Qualifying will take place online, of course, at Fill Tilt.
This is apparently their big announcement and rival to the EPT. Seems a terrible idea to me, it just really alienates 99.99% of players and gives them a chance to rig the all time money list.

$1mill added sounds really small when it's the same as 4 entries too.

ONYX Cup (sponsored by the Live Tournament Staking board)
Seems a colossal waste of time.
And what's with having the Grand Finale's buy-in less than one of the earlier events?

because some people cant stump up $300k for a single buyin, and they want the grand finale to have the biggest field so makes sense to put a more affordable $250k buyin on this event

I know for the most part this is going to be frowned upon for various reasons, but is there only me that thinks this will make good TV? I think the WSOP coverage now days isn't too good due to the fact they cover practically every single day of the ME and none of the side events. And being as the only program that was worth showing - High Stakes Poker - now is shite, it could be a good replacement. I like to see some of the biggest names in the world facing off for mirrrrrions rather than Dave playing Joe for a micky mouse pot on day 1 of the ME. Just a thought. Flame away....
