Day 5 June 7th.
Todays event was a new one to the World Series schedule. Short handed No Limit Holdem has proved very popular on the Internet, so the WSOP had inserted the 6 handed Hold em event into the schedule. I usually play my best poker when tournaments become short handed so I quite fancied my chances.
Unfortunately though, nothing changed. I got up, and still had the dreaded flu or virus, and again made an early exit. The tourney was very interesting though. The play was super fast. We managed to lose half the field in the first three levels! Fellow Brits Dave Barnes and Harry Demetriou both made the next days final, with Harry being unfortunate to finish second.
Day 6 June 8th.
I was right to be slightly worried as the $1,000 NLH rebuy event got underway. 4 players at my table immediately took a rebuy. As this is the correct strategy for winning the tournament, I did likewise. Unfortunately I soon had all 2000 chips in the middle with AQ suited against my opponents A10 suited. Needless to say, in current form, my opponent hit his flush. Another $2,000 double buy-in and a $1,000 top-up turned this into a very expensive tournament.
I did parlay may chips up though, and began to think I could go all the way. Down to the last 200, I re-raised all-in with Queens against the chip leader. Unfortunately he called with AK and hit his King. Just when I was beginning to think the form was turning.
The eventual winner, Michael Gracz pocketed almost $600,000. Not bad for a $1,000 buy-in tournament. I must also mention the popular John Law from Newcastle came in for a creditable second place, and a cool $311,550. Undoubtedly his biggest win to dateby about 10 times!
Day 7 June 9th.
What is going on? The temperature is topping a 100 degrees of glorious sunshine, and I have one of the worst colds of my life! I just dont get it. Having stopped off to buy a crate load of handkerchiefs, I arrived for the first 7 card stud event of the WSOP. This is the game where it all started for me, so I still love to play it occasionally. For old times sake I guess.
I actually had a very good tournament, and felt I played very well. I made it down to the last 200 again and was coasting along with close to average chips. Unfortunately, I then lost 2 back to back pots against the same opponent, where I was probably a small favourite. This left me short stacked and struggling. Eventually, I ran Aces and

into an opponents two pair. His two pair being red Jacks and black Jacks, and I was off to bed again.
