Event #58: $10,000 Main Event
Day 2a completed
With the end of the final three hands, our surviving players will come back on Thursday for Day 3 of the Main Event - the first day where all remaining players will be playing at the same time. The current chip leader will be Aleksandr Mozhnyakov who is just shy of breaking the half million mark, sitting as he is with 478,600. The Russian sits ahead of Tuan Vo (434,500), former WPT winner Guillaume Darcourt (410,500), Stephane Albertini (400,100), Massimiliano Martinez (355,000) and Mike Sowers (347,700) in the counts.
We started today with 2,031 players separated into both the Amazon and Pavilion rooms, the latter out of commission about halfway through the fourth level of the day though it remained packed until the very last table was broken. The reason? A certain Phil Hellmuth resided there, short-stacked, partially because he was unable to get anything going, but also because he had not even realised he was playing today. The story going was that Mike Matusow had sent security to break into his room to get him to actually turn up. By this time his stack had been blinded down from the 11,800 he started with to below 7,000, but Hellmuth went into super grind mode and managed to turn it around by the end of the day, recovering to finish with 64,900.
Elsewhere, PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu entertained the crowd on the feature table, finishing the day with 114,100. There was also a lot of attention on the secondary feature table where Boston Celtics' Paul Pierce was hoping to make it through the day but much to the chagrin of the crowd, he was eliminated late on in the day when he ran deuces into jacks while short-stacked. However, there still remains a number of celebrities who have a chance of making it into Day 4 and a WSOP, they include: Ex-NFL player Eric Stocz (110,400) and actors Jason Alexander (167,000) and Brad Garrett (56,000).
Tomorrow, the 2,490 players of Day 2b (the combined survivors from 1b & 1d) will play five levels from 12pm tomorrow. After this, Wednesday is a scheduled day off as everyone gets a break before Thursday sees the combining of fields for the first time during the Main Event

Why were Day 1c people playing their day 2 before Day 1b people?
Because day 1a and day 1b were the smallest in field size, so they mixed them up with the two biggest days.
Off the top of my head, 65% of each day's field returned, so if you combined day 1a and b that was about 1200 players who made it through, whereas 1c and 1d would have had to seat 3200 players - more than any individual day.

Yes - A & C - 2a
B & D = 2b.
Survival rates.....
1a 897 began, 560 survived, = 62%
1b 978 began, 616 survived, = 63%
1c 2,181 began, 1,471 survived, = 67%
1d 2,809 began, 1,814 survived, = 67%
No idea what the survival rate from 2a was yet.

Day 2b In The Books: Lamb and Saul Lead The Way
Ben Lamb- Main Event Chip Leader
We just wrapped up yet another wild and wacky day here at the World Series, and with the completion of today’s Day 2b, we are done with the players playing separately. Next time they meet up, everyone will be under the same roof, and the eventual champion will be in the building.
We ended the night with 1,080 players, and amazingly, by the end, we have two big names as our two chip leaders. The first is the incomparable Ben Lamb, who is continuing his uncanny world series, as he bagged 551,600 chips for the night. Not far behind is Kevin Saul, better known as BeLOWaBOVe online, who bag 542,200. Not only are these the two the chip leaders for the night, but they will be the two biggest stacks when Day 3 gets underways. The chip leader from day 2a, Aleksandr Mozhnyakov, is not far behind, with 478,600.
In a pot that perfectly sums up how well Ben Lamb is running this summer, he knocked out two players by hitting your standard three outer. Lamb raised to 2,400 on the button, and both of the blinds made the call. The flop came out {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, and the small blind checked. The big blind went all in for about 14,000, and after getting a count, Lamb threw out a stack of orange chips worth about 60,000. It was on the small blind now, who had about 35,000 or so. He announced himself all in, and the cards were flipped up.
Lamb: {8-Spades}{5-Spades}
Small Blind: {k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Big Blind: {a-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Inexplicably, Lamb was actually behind in an all-in, and would need to get lucky to score the double knockout. Of course, this is Ben Lamb we are talking about, so the table was hardly surprised when the {5-Clubs} hit the turn to fill up Lamb. The river came the {k-Clubs} , and Lamb collected all the chips, upping his stack to around 415,000.
We still have a slew of big name pros who are moving on to day 3, including Ryan D’Angelo(462,300), Patrik Antonius(361,000), Simpson’s creator Sam Simon(317,900), Team Pokerstars Pro Tony Hachem(245,100), and Jeff Madsen(231,500). Also alive are Victor Ramdin, Dan Kelly, Justin Bonomo, Garry Gates, November Niners Joseph Cheong and John Racener, and Erick Lindgren, who has 170,300, despite starting the day with just 3,700.
There were a ton of players who weren’t able to survive the day. While Tony Hachem survived, his brother Joe was not able to. Also busting today were J.C. Tran, Matt Jarvis, Andy Frankenberger, Paul Wasicka, and David “The Devilfish” Ulliott.
From here, the approximately 1,900 surviving players from both day 2’s will enjoy a much deserved day off tomorrow. They will all return on Thursday at noon to duke it out once again.
(full chip counts when I get them)
