This is doing my head in. Gone on to safe mode. But it says system protection needs turning on. Followed instructions but can't see a box to check.

It might be that you haven't had your laptop set up to save restore points that you can rollback to.  If that's the case, you won't be able to do a system restore.

Managed to turn on restore again not that we had turned it off as done one previously however, I put it into safe mode like you two suggested and then set  restore point and it is now stuck.  It says please wait whilst windows files and settings are restored.  Been like it for 20 mins or more.

What a waste of a day off. Think it is getting there now but still needs some cleaning up.

After restore point was done, I have once again down loaded that malewarbyte thing again, it is still showing loads of objects infected. How does one get shut of the little swines once and for all?.

you need to kill the rootkit

if the TDSS did not fix it then try combofix in safe mode

get a file called RKill.exe which will keill the malware processes and allow the scanners to run properly, run TDSS and Rkill prior to running your scans ( all in safe mode ) , you could also try thr Kapersky virus removal tool ( another one as well as TDSS )

The files can be on your system, but if they haven't been executed, they won't have installed themselves - so you might be OK.  If you are infected still, then you need to run some process that will clean it - Rotty listed several you could try.

Lol believe or not i got a virus today. It was called Malware protection and claimed to be virus software itself. Had to restart the comp in Safe mode with networking [F8], download spybot, run that, fix any errors it has, [18..], immunise, run again make sure it was clean, then download a thing called Hijack This and delete said virus from registry. Both downloads were free and All is good as new now.

If you've never done it before yes.
