Sorry to dissapoint, not the Pirates of the Carribean types of pirates.
If something (music/movie/software/my book) appeared illegally on a torrent site like pirate bay or whatever, is there anything that can be done to remove it/report it? My guess is no, because otherwise most musicians and TV types would do just that surely? Once its pirated, is that it?

A few options the media industry has tried with varied results:
Sue the torrent sites
Get a court order requiring the torrent sites to hand over their IP logs. Then get another court order requiring the ISPs to reveal their subsriber details. Then sue the downloaders.
Create fake seeds so downloading a valid version of your content is more difficult

Once it's up, not so much unless you want to spend lots of money on lawyer's fees.
One thing that some ebook publishers do is make sure that every copy of their ebook is very slightly different from each other (a small formatting change somewhere) which means a copy up on a torrent site can be traced back to the person who bought it.
On an unrelated topic, you can cancel my order for your book. I, er, don't need it any more.

yeah best thing to do is get a few high upload speed connections with a fake seed to totally mess up with the downloading of it as your book isnt going to apeal to the mass market ther wont be enough true copies out there to make up for the fake seeds

Ah this is interesting, so essentially clog up the torrent sites with fake ebooks, so that it becomes too much of a chore trying to find the real one? I like it, thanks guys.

I was reading about a game called Earthbound back in the SNES days. There was a check in the code when you booted it to determine if it was pirated or not. It informed you when the game started if it was pirated that pirating is illegal. But still lets you continue. Gameplay seems normal but you'll soon come to realise they set the encounter rate really really high. No matter. You can work through that. Then you get to the last boss. When you start fighting him the game freezes, preventing you completing it. When you reset you'll also notice that the game has deleted all your save files That's how you combat piracy
