Meet the NFL's newest old franchise: Carlsen Pawnstormers

2014 was a difficult year for the fans of the Nimzo Indians. They started with the move from Arkansas to Nimzo, as the owners elected to transfer to the Dynasty leagues. Then came the court case. Nimzo Which? Editor, Mike System explains

"The move to Nimzo, Arizona was unpopular but the decision to name the franchise the Indians was as poor a selection as it gets. The owners clearly thought they could engage with the community but it only led to scandal, after fans turned up to games dressed in what they thought were traditional outfits but were hideously offensive to the population of highly respected tribesmen. The arrogance of the ownership meant a court case was inevitable and the decision of the Supreme Court was unanimously in favour of changing the name. The owners were forced to do so."

The inevitable result was a letter of apology and another franchise relocation. This time to Carlsen, Alaska. "We had to get away from there", said new Head Coach, Magnus Talsen. The Pawnstormers was chosen by a municipal vote of Carlsen City and the fans are delighted to welcome football to Alaska.

"Hello commish, getting ready for the draft? nice change from deflating balls, wife beating and bull whipping 4 year olds i expect sir"

"Quite general manager. Bit of a change of a plan. We have to move you from conference A to conference B. Trucks are on their way, need you pack the franchise up leave Wittensville under the cover of darkness and head for Suhsville"

"Yes, you are to be the Suh-Tang Clan. you'll be amply rewarded for your trouble. Just remember don't fall in love with Bishop Sankey again, like you did last year."

I put down the phone, and began to inform everyone of our impending move

I decided to chack who was in our new conference and with dread i spotted the one they all wanted to avoid. Uless they had noise cancelling headphones.

Draft related, do you generally make a list of players you are interested in before the draft and then weep more as they all disappear whilst hoping you end up with one or two or just play it by ear when it's your pick?  I have a list but after the mock draft I did, I'll be lucky to get more than one of them so wonder if I should spend the next hour researching more

in round 1 you hope to get one

then look down the depth another 10 players and who you want

sometime you get lucky and a player is drafted further down that expected
somethime you drop down the list a bit to pick someone up you really want

I think its £30.

Rather than making a big list of players you want I think you would be better off just letting it autodraft for you if you are still learning.  I think it usually gives you a pretty balanced solid team.

Some of it is out of your control, as you can't control your draft position, so your teams will look different from 1st pick vs 10th pick (although the snake format minimises the impact and keep things fairly even overall).  Most people seem to hate having the first pick so it's very much horses for courses.

The bigger frustration is planning who you want next time around and watching him last all the way until he gets sniped by the person in front of you.

There's no way you can plan how your roster will look overall, so it's a case of trying to pick up the best value available when you can.  The order in which you fill the positions on your roster is determined to an extent by the draft position.  Top RBs tend to go in the first few picks, so if you're further down the list you might get more value from a first round WR, for example.

4 team play-offs, 4 team consol works best for 10 team leagues.  There's still side-prizes to play for to keep everything competitive all the way through (unless Phil dominates them once again!)

Entry fees are £30 for the redraft league (i.e. the one drafting tonight) and £20 for the Dynasty League for those involved in that.

Deadline for payment is kickoff time on Thursday evening, after which I'll send round de Boyz!
